When healthy and on his game, Murray is a wall.

He's also a great fire extinguisher when the team in front of him is going bonkers on the verge of a dumpster fire. Vacuums the shots in, and brushes everything off.
Conversely as a Penguin fan, MAF would do the opposite where he would activate full nervous flop mode, jerrycan in hand to add to said dumpster fire.

Bet of luck to MM on staying healthy and productive:thumbu:

We're hoping both keepers stay healthy, and their annual injuries are behind them.

Murray has been elite this year so far. It's refreshing to see a goalie stop all of the pucks he's supposed to. I haven't seen this level of play since a healthy Riemer. It's exciting to think that we have the best Goaltending tandem in the league right now.
Riemer before the league went glove high.

Murray reminds me of Belfour when he signed with the Leafs. Had a bad year previously and bounced back to form for the next two years. And he was late into his career too. Positionally sound and calm around the net.

If this is the real Murray, then Toronto has a legit #1. I don’t think many of us expected this for him. What a stud.

I knew he was capable of this we saw it in Pittsburgh but I didn't think he'd do this.

Still don't fully trust his health but the talent is certainly there.

That's one thing we haven't seen is his ability to put out fires because there haven't really been any.

How many crows would you wager have been eaten?

Did anyone support this move? lol

I wanted more retention or higher return but I supported the Murray/Samsonov combo. I personally rbohbt Gibson was the move (legit starter with Matty going into UFA….. so that might have blown up in my face)

But getting a 25 year old star potential with great fundamentals along with a proven playoff performer was the ideal move under the circumstances.

If varlamov wasn’t it. Then I wanted Murray.

We couldn’t give long term without knowing what Matty wanted unless it was for a sure fire star.

There wasn’t one so this was the rignt move. Just keep Murray healthy for game 1

Murray has a lot more of that alpha mojo than Samsonov, having won before. It's just something like a swagger that comes off even when you're just watching. It can be a scramble, fire drill, what have you, but he makes the save picks up that puck and gets a whistle, there's just a confidence that it's under control more often than not. It's a real contrast to the kind of feeling of barely hanging on when Soup was back there and things were melting down. I think Andersen tried to project it.

While I really do like Samsonov, Murray's vet status really shines through. Guy knows what it takes to win.

He just needed to get a good team in front of him again
