So are people still hoping to buy out Murray's contract?
Were there many "hoping" to buy-out his contract, or was it that wouldn't be the end of the world if they had to?

Depending on what he wants, and how he finishes the season and playoffsIf he does well and increases his value I'd either look to either keep him longer term (after Murray's current contract expires) or trade him for picks and get another good/decent backup
Depending on what he wants, and how he finishes the season and playoffsI would love to re-up him and samsonov and go 50/50 unless one completely dominates.
Goalies are so difficult to predict I would rather keep both.

I don't remember the exact post but I think the general idea was that we should probably buy him out before next season and my response was that it was way too early to think that. Were there many "hoping" to buy-out his contract, or was it that wouldn't be the end of the world if they had to?
I understand and see your logic, I'm just stating what I want them to do if they both keep playing like thisYou have to be able to afford both and even RFA'S can make good money if they perform going into negotiations
We've done well getting underappreciated/reclamation project goaltenders and I'd be willing to go that route again if we get offered something decent for Samsonov
Murray seems to be the type of player who's very passionate/gritty. If knocking the posts off is true... Sign me up for someone stretching the rules to win. Another great story was, (told by I believe Mike Johnson) was during warmups Fluery skated over to Murray to say Hi and Murray refused to acknowledge him. Not sure if this was a mental routine for Murray, or if its because Murray just hates Fluery. Regardless it'd great to have a player who seems to care about winning more than being liked. There's no denying his talent when he's motivated and healthy. I'm still a bit wary about his durability, but he's straight up the most reliable goalie the Leafs have had in years based on his size/ability/mental strength
This thought had a bad couple of weeks.
I think the guy who projected an 86 pt season for the Leafs was hoping for it.Were there many "hoping" to buy-out his contract, or was it that wouldn't be the end of the world if they had to?

Samsonov being rfa helps but your point is valid. We will see. Samsonov coming here on a 1 million dollar deal gives us some room and shows he wants to play hereThey both play like this I don't think we can afford to
He may have seen that deal as a way of getting his career back on track to help him get a better contract in the futureSamsonov being rfa helps but your point is valid. We will see. Samsonov coming here on a 1 million dollar deal gives us some room and shows he wants to play here
I'm sure he did but he's still rfa so we have some control and the qo will be manageable. He may have seen that deal as a way of getting his career back on track to help him get a better contract in the future
That would keep the AAV downI'm sure he did but he's still rfa so we have some control and the qo will be manageable.
Maybe he does a bridge deal?
That is good asset management and I wouldn't be upset if that happened, as I like Woll and think he will be a solid backup, maybe I have PTSD from our goalie woes for the past decade + that I can't let go of one of them. That would keep the AAV down
Another option could be if Murray continues to play well you trade him with a year left on his deal and use that money to sign the younger guy longer term if he continues to play well
I'd be willing to take on some risk if Kallgren and Woll can be .900 goaltenders as our #3-#4
We've shown we can win with that

Also Murray is not old. Maybe re sign him to a 4 year contract at a modest amount and once samsonov steals the net from him, follow your plan?
At this point I'm a little higher on Murray but I believe samsonov can get to Murray level, but it's still to be seen if he can sustain that for a starters load. Once he proves that trade Murray as he will still have value as he won't be old and washed up
I've known you're a degenerate for a while nowI wouldn't sign Murray for anything more than a couple of years at a time with an AAV that reflects the fact he's had significant injury issues throughout his career
What can I say, I'm a degenerate
Roll those dice![]()
I've known you're a degenerate for a while nowI'm good with onky 2 years for Murray and the lower the cap hit the better. Just give me some stability in net.
That said if samsonov steals the net from Murray somehow this season and doesn't miss a beat starting next season, I would be more open to the trade, but lord please just give it a while.
Patience was the Shanna plan but apparently goalies see exempt
Within that argument Murray was a goalie that was consistently good until, according to Woodley, the pens defensive structure exposed his weakness and possibly mental issues when his father passed. In the same interview Woodley said Murray has addressed his stylistic weakness and was trending well until injury last season. This season he seems to be on the same track of improvement, so in this case it would be more likely for Murray to be able to sustain a high level of play than for samsonov to achieve it, just looking at it from a odds perspective.Goaltenders are wildly inconsistent from year to year unless you're lucky enough to hit on an elite one in the draft
That's why I'm willing to have a reasonably high turnover and tend to favor taking chances on younger guys looking for a long term solution
