I think Bunting should not be brought back. Would much rather have ROR but he won't be cheap.

It's kind of one of those dominoes things... you try and resign the priorities, and I'd agree that ROR would be the top UFA priority and go from there. I guess we also have to see how the rest of the playoffs plays out, before determining the move forward strategy.

Right now we have

Knies Matthews Marner
xxx Tavares Nylander
Jarnkrok xxx Lafferty
xxx xxx xxx

Potential forward Marlies/Prospects for the Leafs.

Robertson
McMann UFA
Holmberg RFA

As forwards.... so, we have plenty of room for movement, change or bringing back some of the guys we have.

I view the C positions as the most important. If we can swing ROR and Kampf, without a pay increase to Kampf, and ROR at something affordable, do so. I would see about Acciari and Lafferty, even ZAR... as long as they weren't pay increases. Bunting... let's see how the rest of the playoffs go, and what his ask is.... I think he's probably brought too much offense to be affordable, when there are other priorities..plus he's just not on the good side of the refs.

From outside of the Leafs, I pursue Max Comtois as a UFA. People have brought up Connor Brown at times, and I like the player, but think our focus should be on a bit more size than Brown brings...

Jarnkrok - Matthews - Nylander
Knies - Tavares - Marner
Robertson - ROR - Free Agent
Lafferty - Kampf - Acciari
Holmberg

Someone here mentioned Kampf over Jarnkrok? I would disgaree. Kapmf can be replaced internally by Holmberg as of now. Jarnkrok has been a pretty good addition.

In no way can what Kampf does for us, be replaced by Holmberg defensively. Kampf starts over 70% of the time in the Dzone, as an important faceoff guy for us, and defensive guy for us, PK as well. Holmberg isn't very good at faceoffs, and doesn't have the same defensive presence. Holmberg is about Kampf's equal offensively so far, but I think has more upside. Holmberg might end up being a winger...

I am fine with our 4th line, as is provided they re-sign for their current contracts.

ROR and Acciari absolutely are must re-sign contracts. The more successful our playoff drive is, the better the chances are we can get a solid value for both. Toronto is a good place to play hockey, and that has value.

For our 3 LW, I'm open to a Marlie snagging it, be it McMann or Robertson. I'm also open to re-signing Bunting, provided he fits the budget. Anything over $3M, and he's welcome to get it elsewhere.

For UFA's, if Timo Meier doesn't re-sign in NJ, he would be my priority, provided we can make the cap fit. He'd be an easy add to 2LW and let's us put Knies at 3LW. Miles Wood would also be of interest.

If Comtois is bought out, he's an easy and appealing option as well. If Arizona is open, Crouse would be worth looking at.

We are winning with our current lineup and I don't see the need to change many pieces, provided we can re-sign our UFA's. I think any Marlie looking to make the jump will be in tough to do so, as should be the case.

Acciari is going to be an expensive bottom line player. He shouldn't be -- but he will be. The Toronto exposure has been a lot for him. Not sure the Leafs will have any interest with his new contract demands.

If he's willing to take 1.5M and under, then the Leafs will probably talk about giving him some term.

I doubt Holmberg is gonna be a C at the NHL level unless he can improve in faceoffs. Probably gonna get moved to LW eventually.

Guy instantly got a Tim Hortons sponsorship coming here just because of his nickname. I doubt he got any kind of sponsorship like that anywhere else or will in the future. So I think he'd easily sign back here for around the same price or a little cheaper if both sides are interested in each other.

Holmberg plays C fairly well... but he's abysmal in the dot... if I were him, I'd be practising non-stop. He has a chance to play C at the NHL level, but he needs to work on that, and his strength more. If he played more with guys who could finish, he'd likely have more points too.

I'd be begging Malhotra and Spezza (whenever I saw him) to teach me face-offs.

He's very good positionally at C and everything you want from one but if he can't be at least 50% in the dot I doubt we'll ever use him there, especially when we need good faceoff people for the PK. Hopefully he can figure it out because he'd be very useful at C in our bottom 6 and on the PK/ 2nd PP unit.

Mikheyev had an even bigger sponsorship deal and he bolted. Acciari will go for the bag and his current exposure right now is probably going to get teams calling with a much higher number the Leafs want to pay. He will be 32 this year so this will probably be his last big contract.

It's not impossible they figure out something but I just don't see it happening.

Mikheyev stayed in Canada though so I doubt he lost that Canadian sponsorship because he left Toronto since Vancouver is a very big market for that kind of stuff as well. He was also 27 years old and went from making 950k to almost 5 million a year. Acciari isn't getting anywhere close to 5 million a year somewhere and he's 31 already. I think Acciari will be an easy re sign if we want him because he's never made more than 1.6 mil on a contract before and I don't see him getting more than that now at his age.

Next year:

Nylander-Matthews-Jarnkrok
Knies-Tavares-Marner
Robertson-ROR-Cookie (if he re-signs)
McMann-Holmberg-Lafferty

Reilly-Brodie
McCabe-Liljegren
Gio-UFA

Samsonov
Woll

I would say that is probably fine if you move Holmberg to the wing and bring in another UFA or re-sign Kampf.

McMann can try to win the job from Robertson. Otherwise he can head on waivers to go back to the Marlies, since I doubt anyone claims him.

theres likely a lot of left over cap space with this roster fyi (not saying this is bad, i think its great), so could add a solid Dman or F

I think Timmins with be our third pairing RD. Giordano shouldn't be top 6 next year, he is showing signs of slowing. Have him as #7, and sign a strong, defensive LD.

I think everyone knows who Acciari is.

He was on a big market team like Boston and went to the Stanley Cup final.

A 2-3 year deal for 1.25-1.5M is probably about right

Very odd that they didn't elect to move the Marlies' 1st game tonight to yesterday or this afternoon with a Leafs' home playoff game tonight. I suppose they'll put the Leafs' game on the scoreboard during intermissions and perhaps after the game.

Accari signed for $1.25 and should hardly expect a raise being a year older.

Fans get their Leaf googles on and overvalue our players.
I agree he has been solid, but including playoffs he has only 7 point in 27 Leaf games.
18 points in 54 games as a St Louis Blue.

25 points in 81 games.

I'm just saying that typically these kind of players get a lot more money than they should after leaving the Leafs if they perform well here. This is getting off-topic for the Marlies thread but generally speaking, the Leafs will either re-sign Acciari or find a similar player to sign that is cheaper. They were hoping NAK to be that player but he wasn't.

The Marlies have a lot of good depth players for the Leafs to use but I'm not sure they have the quality.

I found it odd too but there's probably arena issues with some of the games and this was the best slot?

I've always got the sense that Acciari is a guy who knows exactly what he is, and that's part of what I like about him. Some guys have a good year (14 goals is quite solid) so go into contract negotiations saying I'll improve on that next year so pay me more. Often they don't hit on that promise and thats when depth players get overpaid.

Barring some team in UFA drastically overpaying him, I think Noel comes out with a reasonable contract and one Toronto could stomach for a useful bottom 6 player.

Hoefenmayer and Villeneuve are probably injured because if they are healthy, this is quite puzzling?
