it hasn’t been reported but why would the leafs turn him pro this year and waste ELC years with him when we are jammed on the left side.

Bunting
Mikhayev
Kerfoot
Ritchie
Robertson (who may get called up towards the end of the year and be a black ace)
Steeves (who looks like an NHL player)

not to mention all the guys on the Marlies.

it literally makes no sense. There’s no space for him. He has no Junior rights, so I’m not sure they sign him and send him to the WHL either. They should let him go back to Minnesota and dominate even more next year. He still has aspects of his game to work on. Next year when we have a ton of expiring contracts on the left side would be the most logical thing because he then comes in to replace those guys on ELC

An AHL PTO with a 22 start ELC wouldn't use an ELC year, but does lock him in (player of his profile could have very real UFA risk) and give him the best possible development path. By next year Soup and likely Ritchie aren't in the org, and if Robby makes the big club there's a wide open spot for him to come in and play big minutes in the A.

The natural place for a U21 that's already among the best in his league and age group as a U20 is the AHL. We have incredible development resources in Toronto, if we're counting on him on an ELC in 2023 we should be be making sure we get the best version of him possible, and if he can hack the AHL (olympics will be a good litmus test playing alongside tweeners like agostino) the AHL is what should give us that. If he had gone the CHL route there would be no question about sending him back for an OA year.

For sure it’ll be his decision whether to turn pro or not. I just don’t see the incentive for him to turn pro, it’s not a guarantee that he cracks the Leafs.

Full signing bonus a year earlier, max AHL money, get his ELC started one year sooner, better development resources to become the best player he can be.

There's a reason Steeves came out of school a year early to sign with a program that had very limited short term NHL opportunity

steeves had also played 3 years of college to that point

If Knies wants to progress his pro career then that would be a good reason to sign after his freshman season. Realistically he probably spends time in the AHL whether he signs after this season or next. Let him finish this season then put the offer in front of him and leave it open ended for anytime he decides he is ready to go.

How good is he is my question.
Like he looked decent last year, but with Knies looking amazing he suddenly looks much better.
I wonder if there is a fear that he is being dragged along by Knies (or vice versa, Knies is being helped by Meyers)

Either way, would be pretty darn nice for both to go to the AHL and still be on the same line. Knies Meyers Amirov?
Having watched Knies a bit, I don't think anyone is carrying him.

Oh i agree, he has looked awesome.
Is Meyers this good?
Is Meyers being carried?
Is it one of those 'more than the sum of the parts' ideas?

Any of those scenarios, I want them to try and sign him.
After Spezza inevitably retires, we will need a 4th liner (im assuming withing 1 or 2 years)
We will likely need a 3C if Kamf ever slows down (or you switch him to the 4C)

Too bad both of them arent finishing with college hockey at the same time, would probably make it easier to recruit him.

Shots 22-6 for Hershey. Marlies down 1-0 after giving up a SH goal...

Woll is making a case for the #3 job next year with some of these huge games he is having. Kallgren is looking really good too, so we will be fine without Hutch going forward.

Call me crazy, but I think that with a strong enough back half he'll be in the conversation for the 2 spot (if Campbell is back as the 1).

Haven’t been able to watch any Growlers games. But I was looking stats watching with the new Goalie Petruzzelli, he seems like he’s doing fairly well. I was really excited when we signed him as he was a fairly highly thought of Red Wings prospect. Anybody watching the Growlers have any quick insight on how he’s looked?

Woll gets the Marlies at least a point OT 3-3

Steeves wins it.

Woll was taken out mid-way through the game. Kallgren gave up the tying goal, but they had twice the shots so he still played well overall.

I agree with your projection on Schneider and think he gets slept on here, but Amirov's floor is a lot higher than people give him credit for.

Beyond production, Amirov's transition game and defensive awareness will find him a role here even if the offense doesn't translate (unlikely). He's significantly better in those areas than a Kravtsov or Denisenko for example. A 6'1" zone entry wizard with some of the best skating in the draft class, as per Leaf scouts, and a two-way game to go with high-end goal scoring potential is a crazy package.

At the end of the day - Amirov + Niemela in the 3rd round > Schneider + the field.

Haven't his coaches at both WJC and now KHL both said he needs to be engaged more and better defensively? Are we overrating his defensive prowess?

Also see Knies footage today...holy ****
