Having a brain freeze...For most of this time as a King, Kopitar has centered Williams and Brown, but before that who were his wingers?

The ones that come to mind:

Ryan Smyth
Mike Cammaleri...pretty sure when Crawford was coach
Patrick O'Sullivan...I think

it is the classic chicken or the egg argument if you think about it.

each player has to work to alleviate the pressure on one another. you can't just say it is center dependent. each guy plays off and supports the other one. what they do will determine what/how a team will cover the C, LW or RW.

this is why i said it is vital for Brown to ratchet up his production and on ice presence. if he begins to take advantage of his 1-on-1 matchups regularly, then CHI can't focus on and isolate Kopitar and/or Gaborik.

if Gaborik especially begins to use his wheels more, then he can stretch and back off the CHI defense. now suddenly CHI isn't as tight in gap coverage and there are seams that Kopitar and Brown can exploit.

CHI this entire playoff run has relied largely on sitting back and protecting a lead. LA can't allow them to sit back in a layered defense and clog LA's transition. the Hawks forecheck isn't as aggressive as SJ or ANH's was, so having everyone back and using a tight controlled breakout isn't quite as vital. there is room for LA's wingers to stretch CHI's coverage.

No doubt everyone will make adjustments for Game 2, the Hawks forecheck isn't as strong, but they're hanging on the blue line looking to intercept any break out passes.

No doubt that wingers can change the game, gaborik can do better. But I think it heavily depends how well Kopitar doing. If Kopitars going and skating, it makes short little passes back and forth available, opening up defense, finding the slot, all that stuff. Gaborik can do a little better, but I just think it matters mostly on how well Kopitar is doing. Especially now. But that's just me, I think the center position is the most important position in hockey because of the defensive responsibility and offensive responsibility.

No doubt Muzzin needs to blow Kane up like a ****ing Scud missile.

And to all the opposing fans who read that and are going to complain to me via PM, yes I said BLOW UP.

Easier saud then done. Thay dude is slippery. But I thought we got some decent licks on him game 1

Well.. You can always hit him without the puck.. It's worth it if you destroy him.

Please don't ever mention calder. The biggest disappointment ever. Him and his stupid soul patch.

Even if it means letting Greene, and Mitchell leave as fee agents they have to sign Marion Gaborik.

I'm OK with that. Aging stay at home defensemen are a dime a dozen. I'd be fine with a revolving door of Campbell/Schultz as the 6th D behind Doughty, Muzzin, Voynov, Martinez and Regehr and having Gaborik locked up.

Campbell and Schultz are both UFA's at the end of the season. And also McNabb is out of options, so, he's guaranteed a spot, unless traded.

The point is with Gaborik locked up having to worry about who your 6th defensemen is going to be is a great problem to have. Plenty of those guys will be out on the market well after July 1st, teams aren't lining up to sign Greene, Mitchell, Schultz or Campbell.

I think we can retain him for 5.75-6.10

Kings fan are dreaming if they think you get Gaborik for less than 6.5. 7 million front loaded is more likely, which means he will get a few more years than maybe we want to drop the cap hit. The combined tax rate in California (where he plays 55+% of his games) is nearly 53%. Combine that with money to your agent and players association dues, and quite frankly you don't get to keep a lot of your money. I would be shocked if he signed with us anything less than 6.5. Let's hope he is enjoying this experience and wants to stick around or Dean can work his magic.
