Marian Gaborik

Yep I agree in the end who really knows.

I think that DL and co have taken all of these factors into account and have a best plan scenario in place regardless. I don't know Gabby at all and go on the same info that everyone else does but it sure feels like he will be sticking around. He has exceeded my greatest expectations for him as a King so I would love to see him stick around.

I'm going to repeat this and while we are all speculating, this gives you insight into Gaborik's motivations (or lack thereof):

Entering the final year of his contract with the Wild in 2008–09, the Wild began negotiations early to re-sign Gáborík. A 10-year, $80 million deal was turned down by Gáborík, and the Wild consequently began entertaining trade offers from NHL teams.[7] His playing time with the Wild was limited in his final year after being sidelined early in the season with a lower-body injury[7] before undergoing hip surgery in January 2009.[8] He returned to the lineup on March 21, 2009, against the Edmonton Oilers[9] and finished the season with 23 points in 17 games.

Gáborík was unable to sign a new contract with the Wild in the 2009 off-season. He left the Wild after eight seasons as its last original player and as the club's all-time leader in goals, assists and points.[10]

He left the Wild and signed for less money elsewhere to either play in New York City or to give himself a better chance at winning the cup or both.

Lombardi has gone after Gaborik before in free agency, the rumor I heard yesterday was that Lombardi was after Gaborik in January. No way he leaves, perfect fit for both sides, he's made plenty of money and now it's time to enjoy playing for a winning franchise year after year. Enjoy the 72 degree weather year round, no more nuclear winters.

I'm betting that Gaborik loves it in LA, and would be happy to stay, assuming that he and Sutter get along. I'm also betting you will be giving mixed reviews about him in a couple of year's time.

I don't doubt that but he did put up a few 40 goal seasons in New York and played a few healthy seasons so hopefully the Kings can get him on a three year deal at a decent rate and get at least 150 games out of him.

Kings' Gaborik keys Stanley Cup run after L.A. arrival

LOS ANGELES -- The way Jarret Stoll tells it, Marian Gaborik was either going to fit in with the Los Angeles Kings or he was going to be an outcast who risked bringing down a championship team.

Gaborik's new teammates were going to help him along, push and prod him in the right direction when and if they had to. But listening to Stoll, it was quite clear that the Slovakian star was the one who had to make it work, who had to determine how he wanted this to go after arriving in L.A. via a trade from the Columbus Blue Jackets on March 5.

"We've got good guys in the room, good people, guys that want to play the right way," Stoll said. "There's not one selfish guy in that room. We understand if there is a selfish guy in that room, we'll either kick him out or he won't play. That's honestly the way it will work."

There was some skepticism about whether Gaborik would fit in L.A. Could he play the Kings' aggressive, forechecking style? Would he feel like an outsider coming into a close-knit team? Was his confidence shattered after being traded on deadline day two years in a row?

The questions seemed legitimate at the time, at least from outside the Kings' walls. Inside, though, there were no questions.
Mike Richards took Gaborik out for breakfast in Winnipeg before Gaborik's first game with the Kings. Jeff Carter invited him into his home once the Kings arrived in L.A. after three straight road games following the trade.

All of the above is what makes this team great. I hope he signs quickly so we don't keep stressing about it!

after some blissful reflection over the past 2 days, I have to say gabby, suprisingly, played a very gritty game in these 2014 playoffs.

How many freaking greasy goals did he get? Every critical, game tying or game-winning goal was directly in front of the net.

It definitely changed my impression of him. Before joining us, id always thought of him as a slick, highly-skilled euro, afraid of the rough and tumble.

I certainly hope he signs with us. I know I would if I were in his shoes ;)

He's a Jacques Lemaire coached player. He knows what it takes to play responsible playoff hockey as he showed in a healthy playoff run this year under a coach that understood how to maximize his strengths.

I love Gabby on this team for 5 reasons:

1) He scores nearly all of his goals right around the goal crease, some even dirty goals
2) He adds another element of speed that this big bodied Kings team lacks (other than Jeff Carter)
3) Him and Kopi, together = gates to the pearly white Heavens
4) Kings don't need to rely on him for being 'the man'
5) He scored a lot of big goals and game winning goals in the post season

What's the timeline for Gaborik?

(You can probably guess someone is overly excited about their fantasy team)
