Marian Gaborik

Gaborik's gal is a model and she seems to enjoy the LA lifestyle and is friendly with other players' wives/girlfriends, which is good news for Lombardi and the Kings. Happy wife, happy life.

Model? When exactly it is happened, as I remember she was a professional dancer. Still remember her tight dresses in the tv show called Let's dance..

Well naturally a winger is invisible when the center is doing about the same. Only unless it's a super star winger, then they can do it themselves. If you want gabo to be scoring goals, getting points left and right, then Kopi has to be playing like that first.

Like when Getzlaf sucked.. Perry sucked.

When thorton sucked, Marleau sucked.

It almost always dependent on the center.

it is the classic chicken or the egg argument if you think about it.

each player has to work to alleviate the pressure on one another. you can't just say it is center dependent. each guy plays off and supports the other one. what they do will determine what/how a team will cover the C, LW or RW.

this is why i said it is vital for Brown to ratchet up his production and on ice presence. if he begins to take advantage of his 1-on-1 matchups regularly, then CHI can't focus on and isolate Kopitar and/or Gaborik.

if Gaborik especially begins to use his wheels more, then he can stretch and back off the CHI defense. now suddenly CHI isn't as tight in gap coverage and there are seams that Kopitar and Brown can exploit.

CHI this entire playoff run has relied largely on sitting back and protecting a lead. LA can't allow them to sit back in a layered defense and clog LA's transition. the Hawks forecheck isn't as aggressive as SJ or ANH's was, so having everyone back and using a tight controlled breakout isn't quite as vital. there is room for LA's wingers to stretch CHI's coverage.

lol.

Justin Williams, on how Marian Gaborik makes the team different compared to last year:
I believe Marian’s skill set speaks for itself on the ice. But fitting in with a hockey team is not just going out there and playing the game. To be a part of the team, you have to be a part of the team on the ice and off the ice. Marian has fit in quite easily. Whereas looking at his stats, he can be a pompous jerk. He’s actually a pretty nice guy. [Gaborik: Thank you buddy.] He’s fit in real nice with us. I think that’s why he’s had a lot of success on the ice as well, because everybody has taken to him

And what are the other options?

There is no one else available this summer that is anywhere close. The Kings need a player like Gaborik to contend with the other teams in the West. We simply don't beat SJ or the Ducks without him.

Lack of options doesn't mean that you should risk making a bad decision. Gaborik has been a God send. With that said, Gaborik has spent 40% of his entire career on the sidelines. On top of that, when healthy he quickly became very hot and cold year in and out. It seemed to happen after he got his first contract. All of that makes me nervous.

If there were no reason to be nervous, it would've cost a helluva whole lot more than what DL paid to acquire him. That being said, he is a must sign. The piece fits and we can only hope that he doesn't ask for the moon during negotiations. Aches and pains seem to hurt a little less when you're happy, it seems.

I have feeling that if Kings win SC this year, it will be harder to resign Gaborik than if they lose against Chicago (because if they beat Chicago, they'll beat whoever will play from east in final). Because if he get his SC, he'll probably take the highest money he gets, if not he know that with this LA core he'll for sure have good shot for next three years at least...

If they win the Cup, I doubt Gabby leaves. I think he would sign a deal that would keep him there for at least till his playing days are over. Great team, great linemates, potential cup finalist for many years to come....and Its always sunny in LA....why go to the east and stay in the frigid cold winters when you can walk to the staples center in flip flops?;)

I basically meant that in all the trade deadline acquisition discussions on our forum, not one of us mentioned acquiring Gabby.

Let's face it, we all suck!

Oh I thought you meant the impact deadline player thread on the main board. I won't apologize though, it's still a cesspool. ;)

Kopitar has never had a winger like this before. Now we see what happens. Williams, Brown, Sturm, King....some worked, some didn't.....

Having a brain freeze...For most of this time as a King, Kopitar has centered Williams and Brown, but before that who were his wingers?
