I really hope they can come to an agreement.. Gaborik is certainly raising his stock by a lot this post season, not that I'm complaining :)

I'm guessing Lombardi and Solomon are waiting to hear the final word on what the cap will be next season before any real negotiations start.

I highly doubt that the preliminary numbers don't come out til June 30th. And the final numbers are Oct. 1st.
I think it is all about not wanting contract negotiations to be a distraction. So wait for the Kings season to end. Of course the way Gaborik is playing right now that is working to his advantage and against the Kings.

I have feeling that if Kings win SC this year, it will be harder to resign Gaborik than if they lose against Chicago (because if they beat Chicago, they'll beat whoever will play from east in final). Because if he get his SC, he'll probably take the highest money he gets, if not he know that with this LA core he'll for sure have good shot for next three years at least...

This is where I think your wrong. Many players now days when they find a place they can have success both personal and team they are willing to take less $$$ to be on that team. Plus after LA won the cup in 2012 just about every player that was UFA took less $$$ to stay in LA. Winning matters to most vets more than you think.

Herby...I really hope they win for you tomorrow! $600 is around what I pay for one season seat!

So many people hated on the Bernier deal. Dean took the assets from that trade, flipped one for a 3rd rounder and then turned "the centerpiece" of the deal into the leading goal scorer of the playoffs.

Pretty insane.

Can't they just use the franchise tag on him?

...what do you mean, "wrong sport?"

(PAY THAT MAN HIS MONEY - GET IT DONE)

I think the deeper the kings go into the postseason, the more likely it is he re-signs here. He is just earning more money from the Kings the more he scores. How many teams can afford him, willing to forego the injury risk that I think is vastly being overlooked and he'll want to play for? How many of those teams are a contender and have a center of Koptiar's caliber in his prime to play with?

Gaborik will be a King next season barring some major injury between now and July 1st. He won't make it to July 1st either. DL did not see him as a rental and he has performed. He'll pay him. Book it.

i will bet a beer and a shot that he signs for what the rest of the main goys, sans kopi and DD got somewhere ih the 5m area

For the first time in my fandom career, I think this team offers Gaborik more than any other in amenities--a good team, great icetime, not being "THE" guy, a supportive environment, the beach, good money/term from a GM who clearly likes and supports him, I can't imagine a better fit. Sure, someone with a lot of cap space will want to toss a ton of money at him after these playoffs--I only hope he proves he's the guy we think he is and sticks here. Open market FAs these days are getting huge money.

Agreed. Of course, this is all pending durability, but I think it's safe to say anything under 6 is a steal, 6-7 is realistic and hopeful, over 7 means we're closing the gap on what someone else is offering. Assuming it doesn't go over 3-4 years.

Let's revisit this thread when Gabby gets injured and misses valuable time. Let's see how many of you guys have a change of an opinion then.

lets have the Kings sign him first before we start the "I told you so posts" and go from there.
