and where is Mike Gillis now? What NHL team is lining up for his services?
He hasn't sniffed an NHL management job since 2014, he's been Ted Nolan'd
But yet Rutherford is utilizing Gillis's model for the front office of an NHL team. Interesting that he presented this to Pittsburgh when he was applying for that job.
We would have been so much further ahead if Aqua had not forced Gillis to hire Tortorella and then fired him when he wanted to rebuild.
Oh, and Gillis had 1 draft choice in the top 10 (compared to how many for Benning?) and he selected Bo Horvat at #9 (after orchestrating the trade of Schneider). Not too bad.

It's been pointed out to the guy you're replying to that Gillis has had numerous opportunities, interviewing with other clubs. He's always wanted a high level of control, which is why he had accepted the Canucks job in the first place, and is why he hasn't found another gig.

And that's ignoring his incredibly awful take on Ted Nolan.

The trade rumors around Demko just won't go away......with the Kings emerging as a front-runner.

Checking out their roster on Cap Friendly--the Kings certainly have the young pieces to make a trade work. Guys like Helge Grans; Alex Turcotte; Samuel Fagemo, Sean Durzi and even Quinton Byfield, if the Canucks swing for the fences.

Of course that would leave the Canucks in a serious pickle in the crease.....but in Ian Clark we trust.

Considering the job he's done this year, I don't know how much we can trust Ian Clark. A lot sure, but he's shown he's either behind the times or made some serious missteps.

If they weren't Marky or Demko his results have been mostly disappointing.

Obviously the return should be Peterson (Ian Clark special), Edler (give him the C!), Madden (return of the messiah), and Anderson-Dolan (a popular pick at Lind's spot).

I don't think we should equate our poor goaltending this year to a goaltending coach.

Demko was playing hurt and Martin stinks. On top of that we've had the worst defensive coverage in the league this year.

Nothings changed with Clark.

Elder? Did someone say Edler? I loved him as a canuck... his time is not now... 2022 was ok,. But does bring to light how bad OEL has been

I've been hearing about building a winning culture for almost a decade now. Only to have a continually losing culture. Winning culture starts at the top. They will have to deliver eventually. Canucks fan patience for losing, and being told no rebuilding moves can be done because of "winning culture" is at zero.

Does it really start at the top? I kind of feel that a winning culture is developed with a core group of players that win with each other. Usually that involves core players that don’t know what it’s like to be on losing teams to join the team and also maturity from players who are sick and tired of losing. The coach probably has something to do with it as well.

Take Sakic. Was he a winner with the Nordiques? Hard to argue that he was. But that turned around quickly. The same with Lemieux and to a lesser extent Yzerman.

There is some causation vs correlation here but can a team have a winning culture when the talent isn’t there to actually win? Does a “soft” talented team that is great in the regular season have more of a winning culture than a team full of character players who are leaders but the team doesn’t have enough talent to win their share of games?

A winger who will be give or take PPG who can play center and hates losing? Ya he’s priced very well especially considering where the cap is supposed to go in the next 5 years.

Only townies that know nothing about the league beyond vancouver think this is a terrible contract.
He cant play center if you want to actually win against decent opponents.

I doubt he hits point per game ever again in his career.

I think you have a massive bias because you like Millers type of "fiery" players or something. You think "showing passion" on ice is more important then actually doing the right things that win you games. I would never trust Miller in a tight game in the playoffs. Never. Who knows what will blow his gasket at any give moment.

If Bo would have taken 1M less, this management would have locked up the exact same core as Benning lol. Lucky Bo went for the moolah
Glad to see you have beaten your depression and are turning around on how this management is doing.

He hasn't done well with either veteran we had previous to this.

Is he is a great goalie coach? Absolutely.
Does he mesh with every goalie? No.
Has he made mistakes in the past? Yes.

Just saying that the guy is not infallible.

I find it a little humorous how he's this goaltending god who can do no wrong, considering how when we replaced him last time it was widely regarded as a positive. Of course, there were circumstances out of the ordinary that do not speak to him as a goalie coach...I just find it funny.

I mean, I'd prefer to go beyond just points.

Both are playing very different roles on the team they're playing for.

The Ian Clark fan fic only became a thing when Benning apologists needed something to prop him up with…..funnily enough it was actually Linden who spearheaded bringing him back.

Goalie coaches need goalie talent to look good. Markstrom and Demko have that.

The idea he can turn old dogs (Holtby/Halak) or crappy journeymen (Delia/Martin) into legit top flight starters has always been silly.

Linden had already been fired before they needed to re-sign Clark. That said, Demko still had to plea to management to bring him back, which is pretty sad.

So you’re happy that we traded him correct?

I’m happy yah. There’s absolutely nothing worse in sports than letting an asset walk away for free it happened with hamhuis and a whole bunch of others.

That said I’m not happy the spin is that management is rebuilding willingly. They tried to bring the exact same core back.

Also not happy it’s such a half assed job. It’s not a rebuild when you commit to JTM for 8 years at 7+ a year. And don’t find a way to move OEL etc etc.

I think most people around the league prefer players that show their hatred of losing by playing defense. Not yelling f@ck, slamming their stick and unplugging their controller.
Systems come from the coach

He cant play center if you want to actually win against decent opponents.

I doubt he hits point per game ever again in his career.

I means he’s scoring at a .89 clip after a supposedly god awful start to the season with the softest part of the schedule coming up.

The Demko trade rumours have been squashed...Farhan was on Doni and Dhali yesterday, and was literally squirming and backpedaling while explaining the Demko situation.

The "Demko wanting out" rumors have been squashed.

The "Teams are calling on Demko" rumors likely have some merit to them, and if a team makes a good enough offer, I think they'll move him.

Rutherford and Allvin have their sights on Jarry as a UFA imo.

According to Friedman, the only untouchable on the Canucks is Pettersson...It doesnt mean everyone else is on the trading block, or wants out...There's nothing wrong with GM's' listening' to offers on most their players..Its what they do.

If a team makes a ridiculous offer for QH, they'll move him as well...every player has a price..It doesnt mean anything is imminent.

From what I'm hearing, the Canucks main goal right now is to get Demko fit, and back to his regular form.
