I don't hold Simmons in high regard at all, but I could see people saying the things he reportedly said they were saying...JR himself said that he told the players at a team meeting that they had a lot of good players but they didn't play like a team...I'm sure this is mostly just the passing along of idle speculation amongst the NHL community.

Nah, he’s garbage. Has been garbage for a long time. Will always be garbage. Has a garbage reputation.

Here’s a recent example:

“No one wants to say this because of the politically correct police and all, but those who coached Akim Aliu must cringe every time they see him in a news report or a commercial talking about what’s wrong with hockey. Like he would know. By my count, Aliu played for 23 teams in nine different leagues in 12 professional seasons and rarely finished any season with the same team he started with. If that was colour-related, how is it that Wayne Simmonds spent just about the same 12 seasons playing in the NHL?” Simmons wrote.

Pure hot stinky garbage.

He can be pure, hot, stinky garbage and still get the odd nugget of relevant information....even though this, as I said, is likely just idle speculation being passed around.

Simmons is a donkey.

But I also wouldn’t be surprised if Rutherford is done after the season is over.

He’s done it before, he’s 110 and I think he miscalculated the passion of the market.

As much as it may be unpopular, I have no problem with his designation of Aliu. Future Greats and Heartbreaks has numerous unbiased accounts of Aliu throughout junior and they are far from glowing reports

I'm sure we can all relate to the facts.. 23 teams didn't want the guy to stick around. You can't possibly infer that 23 teams wanted his departure due to the colour of his skin. Especially considering all the smoke surrounding his behaviour otherwise.

Comparing him to Simmonds though comes off as real cheap and a bit of a dog whistle but its no secret Aliu was a problem child.

I think he miscalculated just how much FAQ was going to be involved.

This seems most likely … the Miller contract being the primary piece of evidence.

There has been a continuity in the discontinuity in terms of statements and actions between various management regimes that would make it not particularly unbelievable that Aquilini told Rutherford one thing, and then did the opposite.

Yup. This is sorta like the Russo “Petterson wants out” article, it wouldn’t surprise me but I also find the source dubious. But if JR has had enough I suspect it’s largely due to him being promised autonomy but FAQ still meddling as usual.

Puzzling, JR was touted as being a 'super GM', meaning he doesn't make big mistakes; yet he has made big mistakes.
Perhaps he wasn't, or no longer is a 'super GM'?
In which case he should be replaced.

GM/ President----- whatever, it seems apparent the JR is THE boss- other than the owner, that is.

Another day, another Connor Garland trade rumor. This time, the Leafs are apparently expressing interest.

I'd day it's become more obvious by the day that Garland is gone by the TDL, of if he survives that, will be dealt during the summer.

Canucks have a glut of wingers coming back next season and no room for everybody.

Not sure how we'd make the cap work on a trade with Garland (has 3 more years) unless we're retaining a bit. I would also eat Muzzin's LTIR uncertainty if compensated properly.

Rather trade Boeser than Garland even though Garland has a longer contract and their production is similar this year. Depends on the return. Both could be traded and Id be okay with it depending on return

Let's be honest, we should try and trade both even if we trade them each for similar money contracts that have less term on them on aggregate.

Gotta stop overspending on the wing.

For sure. Realistically need 1-2 of Boeser, Garland, Beauvillier gone in a month. Only one is needed if Myers is gone as well

What’s the source of this rumour?

Not sure on the source but I believe it was rumoured that Dubas was interested in Garland going back to his time in Arizona. If he’s still interested then he must be a big fan of Garland.

Rutherford is on record saying that this job has been harder than he expected, but that he would also not quit halfway through unless his health requires that. I tend to believe him.
