I feel like answer you were hinting to is supposed to be Skinner, but the actual answer is Crawford who isn't like the others that was a quality starting goalie, Niemi on the other hand is pretty close to Skinner when you factor in the respective differences in era. I also remember looking at Niemi's advanced goalie metrics back in the day and he was pretty weak at saving anything that wasn't a perimeter shot and CHI and SJ at that time were pretty good at doing just that for him, when he moved on to other teams that didn't do that as well, the wheels quickly started falling off, he only saw a starting goalie workload once after leaving SJ and his sv% not playing for CHI or SJ was 0.900, which is definitely worse than 0.897% relative to that timeframe where scoring wasn't as high as it is presently.

Can't say I'm surprised with where they are in the standings. First year in Utah, Ryan Smith wants to try to make a run of it and give new fans something to cheer about.
I can definitely understand the approach. Don't blame him for showing faith in the team. Anything could happen with that last wildcard spot.

I didn’t say I wouldn’t do it. I just don’t blame them. I think its just unlikely with Gibson because of all the nmc JJ handed out and sounds like Kane is holding them hostage.
But they have to do something if they choose not to go for Gibson. They have to figure something out. Not addressing the goaltending is a fireable offense.

Watching the Leafs vs Vegas game, and Vegas looks so good its unbelievable. I forgot they got Hanifin and Hertl last year without really losing much. Adin Hill looks like a star. That team keeps trucking along so well year after year its ridiculous. I looked up what they paid for Hanifin and Hertl- a first round pick and C level prospect for each. Must be nice to have great management.
They’d have a Cup if they had a goalie like Gibson in the Finals last year. They simply don’t want it bad enough, they just want to put in minimal effort and have McDavid carry them to a Cup.
With all due respect, why would anyone here care about the Jets or want to see them improve?
I’m not sold this team beats LA this year

Vegas is a shrewd team that isn't tied down by worthless crap like "loyalty" to players. They run their team with the intent to win, unlike the bozos here. That's why they won the Cup and we didn't. also a quick peek at their salary structure and they have 3 NMCs. We have... what, 11?
Other than Minnesota and Calgary I'm not sure this team is better than any current playoff team in the West, and even then I'm not entirely convinced.

Eh pretty sure the Hanifin one he just got to choose his team. Vegas didn’t have to work very hard for it.
The Hertl one was creative though.
Similarly with Florida, they pretty much got Tarasenko for free because he got to pick the team.
Some of these teams get major advantages that others don’t. But it is partly because they have done a good job building a team as well.
While things are looking… not great right now, you also said there was no shot that they would get out of the second round last season.

Gibson should not have kicked his left leg out in reaction and instead should have pushed off with his right leg to maintain the butterfly position covering more of the net. Yes this would have been the slower reaction and the opppsing player would have scored but that’s not important. What’s important is maintaining technique. Keep in mind that George McPhee and Kelly McCrimmon were available when we hired Peter Chiarelli "because Cup."
Keep in mind that we interviewed Bill Zito but passed on him in favor of Ken Holland "because Cup."
Keep that in mind the next time someone tries to blame anything other than the dumbf*** decisions of this clown world management group for why McDrai have zero cups.
If we could get assurances that Rantonen would sign, do what must be done...but goalie first or it's all for nothing.
