Spent my whole life watching a leafs team that never had superstar talent.

Trading away 23yr old superstar talent would literally be the leafiest thing to ever leaf.

Agreed. I would however do anything I could to have a crack at drafting Bedard. The kid is McDavid level talent (or damn close)

If we could somehow get that pick by moving Mitch freeing up 10+ million, plus some young A prospects back, I would be open to that.

MacKinnon managed to win his first round in year 6.

McDavid has won 1 round in his first 6.

Draisaitl 1 in 7 years.

Hedman 2 in 5yrs

Ovechkin 1 in 5yrs.

Our boys move ahead of all of them except for Hedman with a win tonight.
Only difference is can you really look at this team and think they are going to get much better? We are tight against the cap, our core is at or slightly past prime and we will have to plug holes next year with bargain bin contracts.

Unfortunately a 23 year old talent that can’t get it done in the playoffs and held the team for ransom is a problem.
A player that on multiple occasions has said during a press conference that he wasn’t ready to start the game or engaged is a problem.
Talent is only 1 part of a superstar talent. Commitment and motivation is not one of Marner’s strong points

absolutely yes.

We are just about to finally get our second wave of top ELC talent, like teams like Colorado are already enjoying.

This year we're still stuck with no impact players on ELCs. But they are coming quick.

Freddy is gone, that's 5M free right there. We should be fine to re-sign Hyman and Rielly. Marner for a legitimate #1D would be ideal.

Win or lose, we all know our core is seriously flawed. Is this the year we finally see a major trade from within the “core”?
I doubt we look to trade matthews.
Do we ask Tavares to waive?
Do we move Reilly with a year left on his deal? Do we resign him for big money?
Do we move Nylander (the only one who is playing very well)?

Or.... do we do what most people are probably thinking?... Trade Mitch Marner.
It seems like the most sensible thing to do to reshape a very flawed core. Does anyone believe this core can achieve great things (salaries considered)?

Marner for Eichel? (What needs to be added?)
Marner for picks and prospects (what can we expect)?

Will Dubas even be the guy making the moves if we lose game 7?
It all starts with Shanny .. if we are eliminated then board will ask him for his plan next season .. assuming he says well we will have restricted seating for XXX months and reduced revenues of YYY and we need ZZZ in more $$$ to fix this and that with team .. it ends up very poorly for him .. given lack of inflow of $$$ into team past 2 seasons and decline next year I expect da board to be very focused on cost cutting and performance reviews .. and Shanny's not looking solid with his performance right now .. I expect them to tell him so and let him know they need a solid message/plan to their sponsors and ticket base .. no one cares about media/tv and fan revenue because they are always gonna be there in TO .. we will see

It's certainly possible, but as guys like Sandin and Robertson are hopefully coming into their own, Muzzin and Tavares will likely be fading.

Are you really not old enough to have seen Sundin, Belfour, Cujo?

I myself missed out on Wendel/Dougie's prime, but I did catch those 3...

i think regardless of advance or not, we have to think about making a move for Seth Jones. I don't know what that would entail, but if he's available I think you try and get him.

If I'm Dubas, you let all pending UFA's walk, except Bogosian and try and refill this roster. Either trade for Seth Jones or try and sign Dougie Hamilton.

as much as I love Hyman, I say let him go. Find a cheaper replacement. Get as much cap space as you can and sign a defenseman. Dougie Hamilton if possible.

If a Doug Gilmour 93-94 like playoff performance were to pop out of one of these two tonight, I think that’s where people would realize how far off these two have been in terms bringing it when the games matter and your opponent is bringing it every shift.

Gilmour did it every two nights for 42 days in 1993. The contrast is day and night.

Dougie is sooooft. This fanbase would hate him.

he's a big 6'5 defenseman that improves your power play, also a RHD! Perfect fit, he can also handle the puck so well. He's exactly what we need. Toronto will never be the bruising type, so get players that fit the system better. Hamilton would do well here.

Again, separate the emotion of being a fan of them

Picture these two putting on these performances in the playoffs for the habs or the bruins. Then, with no emotional bond of them being on your team, imagine someone not saying Doug Gilmours playoff performances is something these two fakers could only dream of.

If they aren’t on our team, that’s exactly what everyone would say, and they’d be right. And deep down, you all know this is true.

Two words.
John Tortorella.

this guy will get these kids to grow up fast. No more protection. It’s time to make these boys into men.

edit: re-read this after, and realized how it sounds. Nonetheless, it’s time for torts.

Rielly for Virtanen + Holtby
Marner for Jones

Identity change

Hyman - Matthews - Nylander
Schwartz - Tavares - Robertson
Mikhayev - Kerfoot - Virtanen
Brooks - Spezza - Anderson

Sandin - Jones
Muzzin - Brodie
Holl - Liljgren

Campbell
Holtby

But seriously....who knows what's going on with this damn team. They could win tomorrow, go on a run shut us all up - only to lose a nail biter in the finals.....

LOL. Yeah sure Dubas is excited to have his gf groped by Virtanen. He'll be lucky to get another NHL contract.

Holtby is washed up.

Jones would be awesome but to be honest I'm not sure Columbus would take on Marnies contract. Leafs would have to retain on that move.
