Had a couple of good shifts to start the second then I'm pretty sure the coach filled his skates with cement.

This thread is a rollercoaster if you read it start to finish. Pure ecstasy when his Liiga numbers are being quoted, pure tire fire when his U20 tournament is awful.

I didn't post in this thread so I can't quote myself, so I'll pull some quotes from scouting guides.
"One of our biggest problems with Jarventie is regarding his consistency and effort level."

"However, if he doesn’t score, he’s not very useful for his team, making him a one-dimensional player at this point in his development."

"If one were to only draft players based on their ability to shoot the puck and score goals, there is no doubt that Jarventie would be a first-round pick."

-Hockey Prospects

"He has trouble processing what’s going on around him, hurting his ability toget involved in the play because he’s a step behind everyone else"

-Future Considerations

"While Jarventie is intriguing because of his size, mobility, and improving skill level, his lack of consistent effort away from the puck is a red flag."

-Mckeens Hockey

For anyone saying "lol judging him off 1 tournament lol" ... the issues we saw in this tournament from Jarventie are not new issues. This is just the biggest stage he has played on to date and his game is getting picked apart now that more eyeballs are on him.

Personally, idgaf about his mix of size and speed because his play away from the puck is enough for me to put him on my personal DND list. But with that said I know some teams are more than happy to try to nurture the skillset hoping for the rest of his game to mature and some teams select players with his skillset far earlier than Ottawa did. Time will tell.

Worst WJC performance by a single player I've seen in some dozen years.

I think folks are being too harsh on him here.

he is 18.
It’s his first WJC.

I didn’t see so much laziness as he seemed to have a hard time keeping up with the pace of some games. Remember he is a big kid who is used to playing a slower pace in Liiga. So it’s similar to a European player coming over to play in AHL...takes some time to adjust to the faster pace.

I think Jarventie will do better at his next WJC.

People are always too harsh on a player's first WJC. It's more concerning when they've gotten a taste, come back for another year, and look just as bad as they did the year prior.

Jarventie is a project. I'm curious to see if he learns from this.

Is this the first time he played on small ice? Cause he looked absolutely and brutally lost out there. He was drafted as a project though, and one of the youngest in his draft class so this was not hardly unexpected. I think the Finnish league totals so far raised and sped up a lot of the expectations around him (mine too).

Didn't the Sens have pretty overwhelming draft year as whole? If Järventie won't make it, they can still be happy about their picks.

As being noted several times, Järventie is a project. He will be better next year. He could at least develop into Armia type of player.

Well concidering we left guys like Aatu Raty and Patrik Puistola off the team because of Jarventie, this is easily the worst, compared to expectations.

It would seem that picking the team without tryouts .. led to the Jarventie selection... He was really off to a good start in Liiga but there is no sheltering a young player at the WJC. Hard to pin point.. it looks like lack of effort , and it also looks like completely overwhelmed and not ready to play any kind of complete game at that pace.

What was odd is that he definitely looked better in the Bronze Medal game in that I actually saw him around the net.

I'm not sure what took him so long.

He was the biggest disappointment in the tournament from all teams. I mean I knew he has had some issues before, but I thought he has learned from them. Maybe he will have a NHL career, maybe not. Next year he has another shot at showing whan he can do.

Bad wjc showing, his career is over. Right, guys?

Absolutely is.

If he had a bad 6-7 game stretch in Liiga, how many posts in this thread do you think there’d be on it? I’ll set the over/under at five.

Fans, not players expose themselves during this tournament.

Duh? Liiga is much stronger than this tournament. It'd be like he went down to Mestis and had 7 games with 0 points with downright awful play. If at that point there was ~5 posts on it, it'd be because he's a second round pick and a Senators prospect, so he wouldn't be very interesting. If he was an early first and a Leafs pick there'd probably be more traction in that case.
