He wanted to make the delineation between the kind of defense where you're just in your own zone blocking shots. He wants defense to be fast and quick transitions so they're converting and transitioning quickly to offense.
 
Toews was not fast in any aspect last season...Kane does not pklay any defense...so good luck with then Luke!

Since none of our D(with the exception of Vlasic in a small sample size ) was even capable of getting to a loose puck ,hard to see how they can play fast and out hockey...Too much energy chasing the opps who co trol pucks too long in our zone...compounded by the problem that even on the few occasions our D got pucksbon their still in our zone,they were incabalevof either carrying it out or simply made poor clears,intercepted by the opps and so pucks never even got out let alone out and up to our forwards who were too tired to even do anything with the puck (tired because of chasing too long in our zone and not winning pucks back) on the extremely rare occasion our D actualky got them the puck beyond our blueline.

Itcwasn't that the Hawks pkayrdcslow defense...rheybpkayed no defense exceptvblockingvsjotsxand holding on for dear life..This was continuous holding pattern hemmedvinnourviwnbzone ...so a change to fast out and up hockey from our defendersvin our zone is asking a lot....IfxLR pulls this off hevisca miraclecworjer..Vannotvsee our old vets on D beibg capable of fast defense....Maybevthe kids coming in can.

idk how he can come to the conclusion that davidson is prepared to put this team in a spot to lose for the next 3+ years...nobody knows what will happen with this roster beyond next year let alone the next 3-5 years or however long his contract is to be hc...if they move cat for a haul then they could be in a spot where they have 5+ 1st rd picks in the next 2 years, they might just be in a situation where they're looking to bottom out next year for bedard and then see where they're at, not just lose for half a decade for the sake of losing

That's what Davidson himself said he was planning to do.

So you should think we should assume Davidson is lying when he said, it's a long term rebuild that means 3 or 5 years or however many years.

Should we not expect coach to respond to the situation the GM specifically said they're in?

do i think davidson told richardson that basically they would be in a full rebuild the entirety of his contract, presuming its the 4-5 year range...no i don't think he told him that

This is a fantastic hire. LR has a great personality and will be a great fit for the veterans and the young guys. I can't wait to see who he surrounds himself with
 
Okay, I know I can be a bit of a whackjob at times, but does anyone else want to see Torts try to start a fight with Richardson during intermission?

Honestly thought I like this move. I think he'll do well building up the new core.

I highly doubt that.
I find it hard to believe that Rocky went with Stan and company for so long given the clear signs of mis-management . . alas I guess it's the frog slowly boiling syndrome. At least now from all indications KD is
going to make more intelligent decisions and actually begin steering this franchise back towards succss.

It's just Ben Pope with his usual manner of stirring shit with all of his content....a professional shitposter if you will.

All the other hires I can think of are with established coaches that can demand a much higher compensation package. Not at all equivalent to the Hawks first time HC.

Edit: remembered MSL in Montreal...whose contract is a year shorter at 1.75, not an overly significant difference imo.
 
its probably similar to what JC got on his initial deal, what does Pope think a first time HC should receive on a 1st contract

Most other coaches hired this offseason are ex-head coaches though. Barring some widely acclaimed wunderkind coming in amid heavy courting by multiple teams, most first time head coaches are on the lower end of the coaching pay scale.
 
I can't wait to see how he holds certain players accountable. Will Dach sit if he is not playing well? Will Kane be forced to play hard like MacKinnon? Will Toews be able to bitch at the refs after every whistle?
