It's not going to matter the next 2-3 years, but need to keep players accountable and have a clue about what it is to be a head coach.....King seemed over his head, IMO, so glad its not him, but don't have an issue with an ex-player, who played with grit, various coaching jobs----giving him a chance in the bigs....congrats to Luke for earning this shot.

As long as he’s not coaching us to drafting 10th OVR or so these next few seasons then I’m fine with him. Hopefully he teaches our players how to work hard and hopefully our goaltending is bad enough to let us still lose

His coaching career trajectory is a bit odd to me. Multiple years NHL assistant, multiple years AHL head coach and then multiple years back as NHL assistant.

I'll give him a chance but I really don't expect much. The resume isn't much different than King's actually. We shall see, as they say.

King was not even good as an AHL coach, Richardson was. Quite a massive difference

I cant bring myself to caring about the coach if they're going to intentionally bottom out for the next 2-3 years. We may not have anyone on the roster that will be there when they actually try to win.

Be excited it’s not King. It’s the little wins for the next few years.

If Richardson can help our young d prospects achieve their potential it is a great choice. The team compete level and special teams need a huge upgrade as does the goaltending. The goal is to tank this season but if we get a Bedard level prospect next year plus use our cap space wisely the turnaround can begin.

Literally looking at how the Hogs performed with King there vs the moment he left should tell you all you need to know.

Hogs were constantly getting outshot, out possessed, and outscored while king was there. Moment he left it was a night and day difference.

Richardson had more success than king could ever dream of

Only thing that I noticed significantly different at Binghamton with and w/o Richardson was that his teams had quite a bit more PIMs.

We'll see how it plays out.

I’m not going to claim either King or Richardson were good (or bad) AHL coaches. I haven’t followed minor hockey in decades.
However many of you seem to tie AHL success to the teams record. That is often not the reality.
Some teams play veterans in key spots going for the win while others let the kids learn from making mistakes in those spots which leads to more loses but develops kids.
Some teams lack the talent at the minor league level to produce results.

What turned me off to King wasn’t his work with the hogs it’s that when he got to Chicago he openly exclaimed they were keeping Colliton’s system (which clearly did not work) I get that it’s hard to change on the fly but you’re already losing. Go for it. It’s your chance to win the job and prove you can get it done.
Instead he proved he didn’t have a plan.
That said we don’t really know what Richardsons’s marching orders were in the A. What we do know is his knowledge/teaching seems to have been directly involved in many successful players. Players on the Habs love the guy and … well, I’m still waiting for the 1st negative report about his abilities as a coach.

Yes we will and with the reality of being in a complete rebuild and potentially losing a couple stars like Cat and perhaps even Kane not to mention lesser vets like Strome and Kubalik etc. we won't be competing for much else save the lottery picks so I say bring in a very well regarded " player's coach " and see what base can be built to evolve from. It's a win win win from my perspective. There is nothing to lose.
