"They’ve scored four short-handed goals in three games, including Sam Lafferty’s pair against the Sharks and Connor Murphy’s long-distance wrist shot against the Red Wings. It’s the first time since February 2009 that they’ve scored short-handed goals in three consecutive games, and the first time since March 1995 that they’ve scored four short-handed goals in a three-game span."

Is it coincidence that the PK went biteless not long after Quenneville took over and gradually de-fanged it with moves like removing Sharp from it?

Of course, this is the Luke Richardson thread, so all the more credit to him, for making the PK dangerous again, by installing an aggressive system, even without feared SHG-scoring threats like a Sharp.

I've said it countless times that I prefer an aggressive PK 11/10 times over a passive PK. The last few seasons of the Hawks just collapsing back while on the kill had me wanting to throw the remote control through my television screen. For the love of god forcing the opposing teams to have to make quick decisions when they're up a man always seemed like the obvious thing to do. Sitting back and watching guys like McDavid/Drai or MacKinnon/Makar play pitch and catch while not having to worry about being pressured at all was infuriating.

I'm glad that Luke has seemed to follow through on making a common sense adjustment. That being said, i'm kinda worried that he's going to have this team winning more games than they should and f***ing themselves out of a top pick because of it .

Let's hope the Hawks can provide Luke with a solid NHL roster and see what he can do with it down the line. I really like the way he coaches and how much he's been able to get out of the roster he has in front of him.

I know it’s only 6 games in, but...

When was the last time Chicago looked this good?

7th in points pct. at 0.667
12th in offence
8th in defence
3rd best PP at 33.3%
12th best PK at 81.5%
31st in shots for per game at 24.5
18th in shots allowed per game 31.8
2nd in faceoffs

Pretty darn impressive!

The proof is in the pudding. Change the system(s) around and voila the team plays their asses off with arguably far lesser of a roster than what they've had (at least on paper) since their last Stanley Cup.

Having a coach that isn't a complete imbecile and seems to have gotten his players to buy in to the systems he's trying to implement can work wonders. 6 for 6 on the PK against a dangerous Panthers team? Just think about the PK system that they ran the past few seasons. That system would have given up 3-4 goals out of 6 powerplay opportunities.

My nerves are shot :help:. The team really could use a phenomenal top 3 prospect in this stacked draft and I don't want them stacking up wins making their 1st round pick further and further from the top 5 because they NEED someone for Kane/Toews to pass the torch to but man oh man I can't watch games and hope that they lose.

What a conundrum!! :box:

Have to wonder what trajectory our team takes if he's the one taking over from Q. Or anyone other.

I'm eating a lot of crow in Stan and JC. Looking back now, they were really really bad for the team the last few years.

Same

I question if anyone would have been successful following Q. The players were obviously pissed he was let go and resistant to change. It would have probably taken a Trotz level coach to have anything resembling a smooth transition.

I don't doubt Luke would have at least garnered more respect and buy in than JC, because the players gave him none. It might have been necessary to have a sacrificial lamb between Q and the next real coach.
