I think the goaltending was pretty bad early season. To me of late the goalies have picked it up and the team has really regressed . I know Ulmark has given up a lot of goals last couple games but to me he made some real good saves and the team gave up tons of grade A chances .

I like Ullmark. Think he will only get better. He seems very calm and likeable a la Swayman. Missing Rask but glad with both.

They call him Skidmark on 98.5!!!!!! I hope he can turn it around! Is he getting the start tonight?????

Nothing against Linus, but I kinda wish we went with the two rookies.

That was my hope too, with the big time savings on goalies we could have had the cap space to get us a legitimate top 4 defenseman.

We would have had the additional cap space, but would DS have spent it wisely? My guess is he would have found a way to waste it by overpaying for a couple more nonfactor players.

Possible. But for a professional GM... going with two rookies would be suicidal..... imagine this place if they were not doing the job!

Possible. But for a professional GM ... would it be any worse than 'center by committee?'

Seems as though he was right to feel confident in Coyle. He’s proving a lot of people wrong right now.

I don't want to take this thread off topic, so I'll say this and stop ... I like Coyle, I like him best as a third line center. He has a decent shot and is very good at protecting the puck. He is not a creative playmaking center who creates offense on the give and go off the rush, especially against higher quality opponents/lines and first pairing defense.
If he stays on the second line, and this is just my opinion, they should use him as a front of the net / slot presence and let his wingers feed him the puck for shots (Esposito style). If he can't get the shot off hopefully he can protect it and get it back to an open winger or defenseman.

But my original comment in this thread was - I kinda wish they had gone with the two rookie goalies (to start the season). Which I don't see as a gamble any different than or riskier than 'center by committee.'
Calgary seems happy at the moment and I'm sure we would have been too. Plus, we could have used the dollar savings to help stabilize elsewhere... such as towards an established 2C or top 4 pairing left side D.
Who knows, hopefully Ullmark settles in and puts together a string of games where he is unbeatable and the team rides him. Yet, so far, he seems a little off - maybe trying to do too much or is still learning (as are many of the new-B's) the defensive system in front of him and where people will be. As a whole we have been spoiled for the past 10+ years with for the most part steady exceptional level goaltending.
