Jeff Skinner got his one playoff game and hasnt been seen since

This is the biggest blunder by Jeff Jackson to date. Why sign a guy that the coach isn't going to use? Skinner is still a talented player, but something about his game turns Knoblauch off, and a conversation between Jackson and Knoblauch probably would have prevented this altogether.

It also would have left them space to sign Holloway. Broberg wanted out, so that offer sheet isn't as big of a deal, but without that Skinner contract in the way, the Oilers could have signed Holloway earlier, and not relied upon trying to get him to sign his qualifying offer.
You pay for insurance and don’t always use it.

At this point if he doesn't draw in I am just gonna assume he did something that crosses someone important line.

How am I doing mods? Not bad huh.?

The only explosive thing Skinner is good at is figure skating. The Oilers play a very north and south game. Skinner is the antithesis of this. He likes to twirl around in open ice
Skinner played 11 minutes so far and threw 5 hits. (Strangely he actually leads the Oilers in hits per 60 right now with the very small sample size duly noted.) No one would expect him to keep that up but he has never been a particularly soft player even going back to his days in juniors. Kapanen has fully bought into things. There is no reason Skinner would not as well if he plays.

Was he directly responsible for the goals against? Or just on the ice? My memory about those games is fuzzy.
If my memory serves he didn’t play that bad, but was unfortunate to play in a game where the whole team didn’t show up (until McDavid in the third). They also had the the bad version of Stu.

Edit - 2 of the goals were just awful turnovers from Bouchard. Not much a winger could do

You can't be very good if Kapanen takes your spot in the roster lol
You know, Kapanen gets crapped on a lot around here, but he's been pretty good for Edmonton, especially in the playoffs. My only issue with him is that he will too often take a long shot that really has no chance of going in. Sometimes it works to get a whistle if they need it, but he too often kills plays with it. That said, he's been very good during the playoffs this year in a depth role. The guy was on waivers this year, but I expect his playoff play will be enough to get him another NHL job next year.

If he draws back into the lineup it will potentially ruin a great trivia question

"Which NHL player played exactly 1 career playoff game and won a Stanley Cup?"
I thought Jeff 'Mister Game 1' Zatkoff would have fit the bill for this, but apparently he actually played 2 games when he won with Pittsburgh in 2015-16.

I kinda feel bad for the guy. I am guessing he signs a lowball "prove yourself" contract this offseason
You are far nicer than I. I was really hoping the Oilers would some how miss the playoff just to keep the playoffless streak alive because that would have been hilarious.

Ok and also because the oilers are the oilers

Yeah - I don't think is automatic at all that Skinner gets the nod.
I agree. We aren't only missing Hyman's goal scoring, we're also missing his physicality and net front presence. Skinner doesn't replicate that, so its quite possible that they try to fill the void left by Hyman by bumping up Trent Frederic, and then pull in either Jones or Philp as the depth forward who can maybe eat some minutes without hurting the team. Jones will bring some energy and body banging too, but he's a liability defensively and takes stupid penalties, so I don't know if I want him in either, ha ha.
