The day Panarin and Bob walked out, Blue Jackets were cooked. At least for the foreseeable future. They obviously have some good players, but the only way for this team to be successful is to have above average to great goal-tending. Bob, however overrated and inconsistent he can be, kept this team from being a bottom dweller.

More Jersey fans in here than Calgary doing their victory laps, jeez must suck being red headed step child to NYR gotta celly whenever u get a chance.
I found it strange that Jersey fans booed Johnny yesterday because he did not go there as a UFA. That is usually reserved for guys who left under bad circumstances, like Jeff Carter leaving the CBJ. Johnny was never a Devil. It was almost as cringy as the Isles fans reaction video to Tavares.

I think that is BS. CBJ have the potential, but they need to get those role players that are willing to glue the team together with their effort. Panarin or Bob would do ABSOLUTELY nothing in current situation, even if both were still in their team.

Gudbranson is getting absolutely caved in.

Everybody who he has played with so far this year has struggled when paired.

Him and Jake bean as a pairing
WOOF…… I’d question if they know which net to shoot on.

I like some of their moves this offseason and going forward.
Gudbranson was not one of them

Beat the Rangers 5-1 though.

When they get good goaltending they can win, but you can see that the players lose confidence in winning when the goaltending falls apart. And it has for 3 games straight.

They need Blankenburg back, he managed to ignite the team in earlier games.

I questioned the Gudbransen signing at the time and I agree that he is overpayed and has underperformed. But a bottom 3 Dman is not the reason they have been outscored 17-4 over the past 3 games. He may be an easy target, but this is a team issue. They are playing with zero passion and look defeated before the game even starts.

I think Gaudreau being from NJ played into that as did the media coverage of him signing with CLB. It read somewhat like Gaudreau rejected NJ more than he chose CLB. NJ hasn't had much to cheer for in recent years so the fans are more riled up than usual since they've finally seen some early success compared to much of the past decade.

I’d argue they got good goaltending yesterday and got demolished 7-1. Elvis gave up a few soft goals sure, but he also had more than a few glorious saves that no one would have expected him to make. It all evened out.

Think it ended up being a blessing. Give his money to Bratt and we’re better off.

And yeah, he spent all that time talking about being closer to home only to last minute choose Columbus. I think he just wanted to be insulated from attention/pressure. He certainly found that in Columbus.

I do agree it's a passion issue and it really doesn't help that they are in a division with not a single (other) underperforming team.

My guess is that they steal at least a one game from the AV's this week and start the climb.

Enjoy wasting the rest of your career Gaudreau lmfao

He's getting paid prime coin and his wife gets to work at the 2nd best hospital in the world - seems like a good situation imo.

I don't know about giving Bratt 11m, but I will say, I agree you're better off. Signing a guy for 11m to join your young team doesn't always work out.

Yeah the softies just happened to be the first few to go in and the team had already seen that nightmare in previous games where goalie allows 2-4 softies a game. It's hard to win when you don't get those stops and seems to deflate them. Earlier in the season they had Blankenburg and Danforth who just pushed the pace in the games they were behind and it made the team perform to a much higher standard. Then both of them got injured. Of course they still should have responded better. Hopefully a different showing from the whole team against the defending champions back to back.

Elvis had a good start to the game but then he messed up once with bad positioning and it all unraveled for a bit, other softies went in. Later in the game he made some good saves too. He needs his confidence back so the team can have confidence in him.

Didn't the team also start off with some unfortunate injury issues? I seem to recall Laine had that elbow issue?

Like... JG is exceptionally good, but he has his weaknesses. You can't expect him to carry the team on his back in the traditional sense.

I'm not victory lapping that the Jackets are doing poorly like some might be who felt upset with the way the relationship fell apart with JG. I do with him the best. But I'm not exactly too caring about following up in detail for his situation either (especially when I barely have time to follow my own team as is).

Just like how we did this for Parise and Kovy and still got called a weird fanbase by people, maybe the Blue Jackets including Gaudreau could've showed up yesterday and Devils fans wouldn't have been bored half the game for entertainment when it was 5-1. Btw, only reason Devils fans are shitting on CBJ in this thread because all summer we heard how much of a better spot they were for him for hockey purposes over NJ, so yeah Devils fans are gonna talk as long as they're being respectful after what happened yesterday.

You’d think Johnny and Laine would be stapled together on and off the ice until they become an unstoppable duo. Even on the ice they don’t seem friendly yet. That’s where this can pay off big for CBJ, If they can find chemistry.

For hockey purposes?

The Jackets fanbase thinks Johnny signed there as a family decision. Sounds like you guys are just a bunch of babies.

It's been three games.

Well as bad as it is... 2nd youngest, 2nd worst GAA, 3rd worst points percentage, 2nd worst goal differential... you could still actually get a bit worse before it starts getting better.

I don't think it was that strange considering how everything played out the first day of free agency. For much of the day, NJ seemed like the favorite to land him. It would've made a ton of sense too, considering he wanted to be closer to home, Philly was capped out and NJ had a very talented young team and plenty of cap space. The announcement that he was going to Columbus came out of nowhere and caught most NJ (and NHL fans) completely off guard. After he signed with the Blue Jackets, it seemed to come out that he really didn't have much intention of ever signing with NJ in the first place and was just stringing them along - not sure if that's accurate, but that's how things sounded. Thus, the animosity for Gaudreau from Devils fans. Seemed like NJ would've given him close to the same contract, but he spurned them to live further from home and play for a worse team. If he just showed zero interest in the Devils and they didn't seemingly go right down to the wire in getting him, I doubt we'd have seen the same reaction.

The team set the players up for failure. Sure, they signed Gaudreau, but beyond that they have a team that looks to be rebuilding. Teams in small markets don't want to admit that for fear of fans not buying tickets. They are really young as as result. It's hard to win with young players in the NHL. It's tough for a team to keep its morale up when they are allegedly underperforming. The team would be best served having an internal meeting to acknowledge that they are rebuilding and give the players a bit of breathing room. With less pressure they will almost certainly play better.

For him to go on chiclets and fan the flames afterwards..

Dude got what he deserved yesterday, loved it
