Maybe goaltending and defense are strongly and surprisingly underperforming in front of the expectations of the frontoffice.
But how you cannot see that center depth has so big holes and is clearly the worst in league since 2 years ?
And GM is doing literally nothing to fix it.

But I've been told last season that Johnny Gaudreau is amazing defensively, that's what his +/- shows...
Johnny's not bad defensively or at least he works hard on the backcheck. Obviously, he is limited by size and the fact that he is more useful to the team if he is cheating offensively a little.

I guess you could say that he uses his speed to break up plays but doesn't necessarily prevent these plays from forming in the first place.

What can you get for Gavrikov? I confess to not watching this team outside of 1 game against my team this year. But from before, I really liked that player, and Werenski-Gavrikov-Peeke-now Jiricek coming in, I would have thought that's exactly why you can trade a Seth Jones and why the group should be entirely fine moving forward, except... :dunno:

Anyway, is he a "guaranteed shop" before the Trade Deadline now?
:dunno:

Only cause Bedard is the first overall this season, I feel like I can’t even talk down on a team that’s about to end up in the gutter for the season. That’s a great consolation prize.

Congrats Blue Jackets. It might work out for you guys.

Maybe a coaching issue? Didn't think they would be great but at least competitive, now they are just under achieving way too much.

I personally guarantee you there is a less than zero percent chance of Connor Bedard becoming a Blue Jacket.

You're talking about a scenario in which the Blue Jackets gain benefit via the draft lottery. Nothing good ever comes from the draft lottery. Not for this team. Even when it looks like it's good it's only a setup for a suckerpunch.

Michkov and Fantilli project to be potential franchise players as well so any top 3 pick is a huge win

Boone Jenner is the captain of the Columbus Blue Jackets. That's it, that is all you need to know.
What’s that supposed to mean ? He’s a good leader and a great guy

If he’s willing to re-sign in Columbus, it will be done. Otherwise he will be traded at the deadline or earlier, expected price is a late first rounder

Gaudreau and Laine are the only top 6 forwards on the team. They're also the only top line forwards on the team. The rest are bottom 6 forwards on every other NHL team. Hard to win games when you ice 10 bottom 6 forwards.

I can only imagine the saltiness and the amount of "lol the BJs suck, they never win anything lmao" trolling if we actually won the lottery. Would probably have to multiply the hate posts in this thread by 100.

Let’s see how jet lag affects them in Finland this week. Avs have not been very good either to start the year.

That's not quite right. The problem with the forwards is more that they're mostly one-dimensional rush players and there is a lack of forechecking and grit. They get outpossessed by a huge margin. Given that they don't have the puck much they actually score a surprisingly decent amount of goals.

Guys like Voracek, Nyquist, Roslovic, Jenner are probably good for at least .5 points per game which is typical for a second line winger. Kent Johnson is really genuinely good. Chinakhov is productive. The talent base isn't bad at all, it's a problem of bad composition. Danforth was a really good checker but he's done for the year now.

I'd add to this bad goaltending and then you have a backend D group that struggles at moving the puck. Jarmo thought he had it covered with Boqvist and Bean but those guys aren't even good at moving the puck. Gudbranson and Peeke can't breakout at all. Werenski and Gavrikov are just okay at it. Blankenburg is a really good puckmover but he's always injured. Can't move the puck and can't forecheck, can't make a save. That's it.
