Enjoy wasting the rest of your career Gaudreau lmfao

Just because the Devils took ten years to execute a rebuild doesn't mean the Jackets will need that much time.

Gaudreau - Johnson - Laine
Werenski - Jiricek

Michkov? Fantilli? Bedard? Leo Carlsson?

Mateychuk
Tarasov
Sillinger
Chinakhov
etc....

We'll be good by the time we're on year 3 of Gaudreau's 7 year deal.

Does Sillinger still have a shot to be #1C or is that for Johnson to lose now?

Let's let him figure out how to be a #3C and then talk about how he might become a #2C. He isn't an NHL caliber player now and has nowhere near the talent to be a #1C.

They need a new coach IMO. Trotz would be a good fit.

Is Trotz good at developing teenagers? Because that's where a good chunk of the talent in the Jackets org is. Kent Johnson, Yegor Chinakhov, Jiricek when he is properly ready to come up. Plus whoever they get at the top of this draft.

Signing with CBJ told us everything we needed to know about Johnny Hockey‘s desire to actually win something someday.

Some people think competitiveness means signing with a team that is already a winner.

Some people think competitiveness means competing to win with whatever you got at your disposal.

I like the latter kind. People who have no fight in them for a hard battle are not real winners, just hangers on.

Thats not exactly a wealth of talent

NJ spent the time rebuilding properly and have about twice what you posted in talent. Just because Columbus cant seem to figure that out doesnt mean NJ gets picked on for it

Youll be year 3 in Gaudreau's deal and be fighting over top draft picks or 80pt benchmarks while NJ is contending

Feel kind of bad for Gaudreau. I still wonder what he was thinking. Nothing against Columbus, but they weren’t a team that was on the verge of breaking out.

IMO Trotz is great at developing defensemen, and getting a team to buy into a system. He prefers veterans over young players, and really doesnt give younger forwards as many opportunities as they deserve.

IMO they should try to trade Korpisalo for a pick, let Merzlikins and Tarasov tandem and battle for starts. Try demoting Sillinger to the AHL and see if Kent Johnson works at center. Move Nyquist and Gavrikov either now or at the deadline. Try to find a team that will give you good value for Boqvist between now and next season.

I legit think Ostapchuk and a pick for Boqvist will benefit both the Sens and Jackets. Jackets need a good C prospect that is physical and tough. Sens need another mobile RHD (Contrary to popular belief, while having a shutdown Dman will be nice, Sens roster does best with more mobile Dman).

The Gudbranson signing was always going to be a bad one at that term and cap hit. He was coming off his best NHL season statistically, but if you watch many Calgary games Zadorov was the better Dman on that pairing, and Calgary bought in as a team to defend.

He was thinking that he and his wife thought Columbus was a great city to grow a family in.

That and whatever they are on the ice right now, seven years is a long ass time, you don't know how it is going to be long term. That and seriously, give me a guy who says "f*** it, we'll figure it out". I don't like players that want it easy.

Especially cute hearing that from a fan of a team that hasn’t made post season in 5 years

Do the Sens let Zub walk then, if they're adding Boqvist? I'm not sure that's wise. If they extend Zub, they have Zub Boqvist Zaitsev Thomson and Bernard-Docker at RHD next year (all 5 requiring waivers to go to AHL). I would think therefore that any "Boqvist to Columbus" deal is going to need to involve Zaitsev, no?

Do the Jackets have enough veterans for Trotz to work with?

Half the team is kids.

Thomson doesn't require waivers? Sens want Zaitsev to be claimed. I don't even think JBD requires waivers, but Zub, Boqvist, and JBD for the RS is good.

Chabot-Zub
Sanderson-Boqvist
Brannstrom-JBD is actually a solid top 16 Dcorps.

If Zaitsev goes to Columbus, I'm sure they want a 1st rounder as well. So I'd rather deal Zaitsev to a team with cap space that will be fine with just accepting a 2nd rounder.

Columbus has a top 5 prospect pool by many rankings. We might be bad this year and end up getting a top 5 pick of an insanely stacked draft.

Now, imagine all that talent plus someone like Michkov or Fantilli and an adequate coaching staff.

We will be fine and Johnny will have his time to shine

I was fairly confident, but I just checked CapFriendly to confirm, and I was right. Both of Thomson and BJD are waiver eligible next season. Would Ottawa actually be willing to waive Zaitsev and put him in the AHL? That would be interesting. Perhaps they would just trade him between now the start of next season.

next year:

Chabot - Zub (extended)
Sanderson - Boqvist
Brannstrom - Thomson / JBD
#7D = Thomson / JBD
---> Zaitsev traded before season starts or put on waivers

Anyways, to get a bit more on topic, would Ottawa be interested in Boqvist when the rest of their D core is already so young? Maybe Thomson or BJD are traded to Columbus...?
