Vancouver, B.C.
Remaining cap hit: 4,671,875
Bruins cap space: 763,980
Need to move: 3,907,885
Oesterle/McLaughlin to Prov: 557,031 each

Need to find an additional 2,793,833.

As of 5pm yesterday.

They could make the money work, but do they have the assets to aquire Kreider?

That's the million dollar question.
Actually, as you pointed out for us, it's the 2,793,833 million dollar question!

KPD in today’s Globe:

“Take this to the bank: If rumors lead to reality and the beleaguered Rangers put Chris Kreider up for trade, he would sign off on a deal that would send him home to the Bruins. Among the roadblocks: the $6.5 million cap hit on Kreider’s deal that still has 2¾ seasons to go. To make room for him, the Bruins would need to move out roughly $5.5 million in cap money, be it in roster bodies sent to New York or elsewhere …”
Coyle is someone they should look to move either way, if you can include in a deal with NYR great, if not trade him for picks or whatever.

As the biggest Kastelic homer here, I think he's a lehit top 9 forward. How does that change the roster going forward? Well, it means all of our forward toughness isn't on the 4th line, for one.

Frederic- Coyle -Kastelic

Is the biggest 3rd line in the league and MK can hopefully drag Freddy into the fight.

Kastelic is our best faceoff guy, so more draws would be good too.

That line was the best line of that period. Great to see

Love it. It's frustrating when folks pigeon hole guys as "no more than..." before he gets a chance to show if he actually can be more than.

Great to see a guy seize the opportunity when promoted. Let's hope it keeps going.

What does earning a call-up look like to you? I would suggest that if the big club wasn't so hurting for any kind of offense, it would be easier to keep Lysell down and set some sort of production bar before he gets called. As it stands, they need to try to get help from somewhere, and blowing up the current roster isn't feasible or an option. Even making a trade work to get one guy that can help is not the simplest of things: Boston has a bunch of junk right now and the ones other teams might want in a trade are players they can ill-afford to let go of right now. So why not Lysell? If it doesn't work, you lose nothing you weren't going to lose anyway.
I was hopeful Johnson could add something but it’s time to end that experiment. If Lysell only has to play as well as or hopefully better than Johnson or McLaughlin then the bar is set pretty low .

I have struggled to watch this team play a full game this year, which has been a rarity since I've been following them religiously for over 35 years. They lack identity, they lack excitement, and just when you think they're going to turn the corner, they have two stinkers in a row.

I look at their line up or more importantly, their lines and putting the homer hat away, why would we expect anything different.

1. Pasta is the only real 1st liner on this team and he's playing awful so far.
2. Marchy, Zacha, and Lindholm are 2nd liners and really only Marchy has played like it and even he has been dreadful in 30% of the games.
3. Coyle, Geekie, Frederic have all been terrible. No other words to describe it. They were supposed to be key contributors to the middle 6.
4. Poitras who had high hopes to make an impact in the middle 6 is now riding buses in Providence because he looks like a boy among men most nights.
5. Brazeau should be getting minutes on the 4th line but is getting top 6 minutes because, well, who else do you put up there?
6. The only bright spot has been Kastelic, Beecher, and Koepke. They've been solid when together but even Beecher and Koepke have trailed off.
7. Johnson sucks......shouldn't even be playing.

I'm not going to talk about the defense, I have zero fears that they'll figure it out and already have been playing better under Sacco. But Swayman- its tough to like the guy who wanted to break the bank and look at what he's done? Sub .900 save percentage, GA over 3.00. Losing record. Korp has outplayed him.

This team needs a shot of life into the top 6. It can't be a center either. For better or worse, we need to role with Zacha and Lindholm as 1-2C.

Marchy-Zacha-Pasta- Load up the top line, Pasta and Marchy will get it going
XXXX-Lindholm-XXXX
Freddy-Coyle-Kastelic- solid shutdown line, I think the offence will come as well
Beecher-Geekie-Koepke
Brazeau/Johnson

One of the wings on that 2nd line has to be Poitras or Lysell. We're effed if it isn't. The other needs to be part of the package bringing in a scoring winger. I'll all in trying to acquire Kreider. Big, fast, can score, and it sounds like he wants to be here.
I'd offer Geekie +Lysell +2025 1st for Kreider 25% retained

If we're being honest with ourselves they gift spots every year, generally to vets, who get outplayed in camp/preseason and are given an insane amount of leash.

I'm not saying Lysell has earned it, but you have a guy like Merk for example who I'd argue earned a spot with his play in the AHL, who is then given 3 games in the bottom 6 while they force feed a guy like Geekie top 6 minutes. What message does that send exactly to the guys in the AHL? What does that provide to the culture of the team?
You make a good point but Geekie did produce 17G and 39Pts last year. I can't blame them for at least giving him a look in the top 6. I think they will keep Geekie with 18\88
for at least the next three games.

Guy is at least finding his goal scoring ability. He is projecting out at a 22G clip now on a goal starved team. Coyle's start was beyond brutal, but last two weeks his play has been trending towards a decent 3C. Put Koepke and Kastelic with him the next 3 games and see what you get.
