Gaudreau and Laine are the only top 6 forwards on the team. They're also the only top line forwards on the team. The rest are bottom 6 forwards on every other NHL team. Hard to win games when you ice 10 bottom 6 forwards.
Kent Johnson and Yegor Chinakhov are going to be top 6 forwards, they are both having a good season playing 12-13 minutes a game

The day Panarin and Bob walked out, Blue Jackets were cooked. At least for the foreseeable future. They obviously have some good players, but the only way for this team to be successful is to have above average to great goal-tending. Bob, however overrated and inconsistent he can be, kept this team from being a bottom dweller.
Yet, we made play offs even without them somehow..

They really need to get Laine back and hope that first line gets going, or it's going to be a VERY long season for them.

Just goes to show winning the off-season championship means null
You’re clueless if you think getting an elite player like Gaudreau for 7 years without giving up any assets other than cap space means null. We might not outright contend, but there’s plenty of time for him to get success in Columbus given our prospect pool

Laine is back, just not scoring yet

Oh. Is Jenner still centering them too? He needs to get going also.

Elvis Merzlikins now has given up 4.75 (!!!) goals against in 7 starts this year.

Not sure how this can happen, but it's an almost very nice GAA of 0,68!

I’ve witnessed 3 Stanley cup championships in my lifetime, I’ll be whatever headed step child you want me to be.
The way Devils fans at large post in this thread, it sure seems like almost none of them have experienced NJ winning a cup yet. Both in terms of insecurity and age.

Feel kind of bad for Gaudreau. I still wonder what he was thinking. Nothing against Columbus, but they weren’t a team that was on the verge of breaking out.

Their prospect pool/u25 pool is loaded and they’ll add more next offseason.

What are you talking about?

Maybe one day a prize UFA will choose jersey, and then we can continue without the insecurities dominating the discussions here, he didn't pick you it's not a good look to be scorned when u were never even considered. As for Columbus, fire the coach and go from there.

Just like how we did this for Parise and Kovy and still got called a weird fanbase by people, maybe the Blue Jackets including Gaudreau could've showed up yesterday and Devils fans wouldn't have been bored half the game for entertainment when it was 5-1. Btw, only reason Devils fans are shitting on CBJ in this thread because all summer we heard how much of a better spot they were for him for hockey purposes over NJ, so yeah Devils fans are gonna talk as long as they're being respectful after what happened yesterday.
You seem like fun...

I don't think it was that strange considering how everything played out the first day of free agency. For much of the day, NJ seemed like the favorite to land him. It would've made a ton of sense too, considering he wanted to be closer to home, Philly was capped out and NJ had a very talented young team and plenty of cap space. The announcement that he was going to Columbus came out of nowhere and caught most NJ (and NHL fans) completely off guard. After he signed with the Blue Jackets, it seemed to come out that he really didn't have much intention of ever signing with NJ in the first place and was just stringing them along - not sure if that's accurate, but that's how things sounded. Thus, the animosity for Gaudreau from Devils fans. Seemed like NJ would've given him close to the same contract, but he spurned them to live further from home and play for a worse team. If he just showed zero interest in the Devils and they didn't seemingly go right down to the wire in getting him, I doubt we'd have seen the same reaction.
He never said that he was going to the Devils. Anybody who thinks he was going to go there and is upset about it only has themselves to blame as their expectations did not meet reality. I don't know if he used NJ to negotiate with others, but if he did, so what? He was a UFA and he can do whatever he wants. He doesn't owe you or me or any organization anything.
The booing and animosity comes across as a guy that was obsessed with a girl and thought that she liked him, only to find out that it was not the case and she went to the prom with someone else.

Get Jiricek and Johnson off that roster and put them somewhere they can play top line minutes without getting lit up

I don't feel bad for Johnny, he knew what he was doing. I feel bad for CBJ fans.

How long until Gaudreau wants out
He knew what he was getting into. The important thing is that he is (semi) close to home.

You’d think Johnny and Laine would be stapled together on and off the ice until they become an unstoppable duo. Even on the ice they don’t seem friendly yet. That’s where this can pay off big for CBJ, If they can find chemistry.
Laine doesn't want to get too attached since he'll be on the Isles soon.

There are jilted lover vibes all over this thread. It's choking with it.

Kent Johnson is playing well and putting pucks in the net. Nothing to be concerned about. If anything he should be getting a chance to play 1C and develop chemistry with his future linemates.

Agreed that Jiricek belongs nowhere near the NHL at this stage. He'll be great but this is not how you develop a star player.

As a die-hard CBJ fan, this is embarassing, pathetic, sad, but honestly.. not terribly unsurprising. I knew we’d be bad this year but not this bad. Somehow not many people on the mains are talking about our disgraceful play so far this season.

2nd youngest team in the league (other than NJD), yes but still we are:

• 2nd to last in goals against/game giving up nearly 4.50 goals against per game. Elvis Merzlikins now has given up 4.75 (!!!) goals against in 7 starts this year. statistically the worst starting goalie with a minimum of 4 starts this year.

• 3-7-0 … 3rd worst point percentage this season.

• the worst overall save percentage.. 85 percent. yes, worse than Los Angeles.

• 0/25 on the powerplay .. only team without a PP goal. went the entire month without a powerplay goal. amazing.

• 2nd worst goal differential .. -18.

here’s our forward lines (atleast from today) to show how putrid it is.

View attachment 601046

we have a new coach this year if you’re not familiar.. Brad Larsen. he had previously been our assistant for years. he has now coached in 85 NHL games and the team looks as lost as ever. it’s embarrassing.

oh and we also sold Bjorkstrand for practically nothing this off season (for a 3rd and 4th round pick). the most unpopular trade of all time when it comes to our fan board and across the CBJ social media verse.

View attachment 601043

this was the defense we jotted out today. LOL .. let’s talk about Erik Gudbranson. he’s been on the ice for 104 shots against AT EVEN STRENGTH.. 2nd most in the league to…. owen power?

oh yeah, and he’s tied with us for 4 years still. sickening.

SO. DAMN. EXHAUSTING. BEING. A. CBJ. FAN.

Honestly very disappointed in the jackets this year. Not so much the record but the uncompetitive games. With Gaudreau coming in, I really though they would take the step the Avs took in year 2 under Bednar.

… while not playing top line minutes, Johnson is absolutely holding his own. 5 points last 6 games while scoring 3 goals during that stretch.

sucks that the Jackets don’t view him as a center (yet) because him and johnny would have natural chemistry, im sure of it. their styles of play compliment eachother immensely.
