Post-Game Talk: Leafs win Game 4!

E2RlodzXIA0PIyp

To be fair to Montreal, in the 2 years they had Domi he had 153 GP 45G 71A 116P..... then turned him into Josh Anderson..... And Domi was awful in Columbus this year. So Bergy actually did a decent job with those 2 trades.

I don't need to repeat the Chucky story

I'm a big price is overrated guy but tbh he's been great this series. Stopping all sorts of great chances. Only a couple of the goals that he'd really want back.
Mo's goal is the only one he probably wants back, and even then it was a grade A chance. All the others had good movement, deflections, traffic and/or angle changes for him.

I will say, his stats aren't great, but feels like we've got a lot of really prime chances when we do get our opportunities.

Not worried about Matthews or Marner at all, they're both still dominating when they're out there and could have had 1-2 goals a game(for the line) in every game so far.

Plus Marner's PK ability is shining.

I will say though, maybe it's the stick Matthews uses for his shot, but I wonder if it impacts his passing, if he could channel in his play making it would do wonders for the PP.

Eh mo's goal was a grade a chance and a pure top shelf snipe.

I'm thinking Sandin's goal he wants back and there was another similar one that I'm blanking on right now.

If you watch Mo's goal he pulls himself off angle to cheat towards Hyman. It's an odd sequence because he goes right (Marner) to left (Mo) and then back right (Hyman). I didn't catch it at first, but have watched a few times.

I almost included the Sandin one, but the lateral movement and walk-in from the top of the circles with a screen left it off my list.

You may be thinking of the Spezza goal as another weak one, but Simmonds being there changes the angle a lot.

I agree with you. But if it was Allen we were facing and he had the exact same performance with the exact same saves - their would be a lot less overhyping of him. But because it is Price the narrative shifts back to him being possibly the best in the world. "Carey Price doing things only Price can do" "the man, the myth, the mystery". They are shaping a picture that his play has been special - where I think there is a huge divide between his great play and a special performance.

I think he is the only goalie in the world that would get this built off the performance he has had, and that is what pisses me off about the coverage.

Spezza's shot in Game 3? It was a laser but there was no screen, he probably should have had that.

I probably shouldn't say this but I'm bored with this series already. Maybe it's the summer weather, not sure, but this series just feels so over.

And I know I probably shouldn't be looking ahead either but what the hell, I'm not a player just a dumb fan so I'm entitled to. I can't get excited about WPG, I just can't and I'm thinking about TB already.

Montreal and Winnipeg should be nice warm-ups and confidence builders for the team, to get some winning under their belt for when the real serious round begins with #3.

The games are a little melodramatic probably because when you play the same teams over and over and over it gets a little boring as we have already played Montreal 14 times in 2021 and as the heavy favourites its playing out as expected.

While Montreal really shouldn't even be in the playoffs at a near .500 record in a normal year, it still feels good to be getting payback and beating Montreal, as in 1978 and 1979 when they were in the middle of their 4 straight Stanley Cup dynasty run. Also Montreal has won 10 X Stanley Cups since Leafs won their last one in 1967 so sending them packing still feels good.

I can see our Leafs sitting at 8xW and 2xL after first 2 rounds at least that was my expectation based on QofC going into the playoffs.

Domi: 54GP 9G 15A 24Pts
Anderson: 52GP 17G 7A 24Pts

Don't really want to hear any more hype about Josh Anderson.....the guy looks mildly dangerous on a rush, otherwise he cant generate offense if he doesn't have that momentum and other than that he throws the odd hit.

Meh.
I was so sick of hearing the constant Anderson praise here and on TSN/SN. They were talking about him like he's some kind of unstoppable force to be reckoned with. The guy puts up Clarkson type point totals every year. Sure he lays some hits and and skates fast, but how useful has that been so far?

I say do this when Foligno is back:

Foligno - Matthews - Marner
Gally - Kerfoot - Nylander
Mikheyev - Engvall - Hyman
Thornton - Spezza - Simmonds

And when JT comes back

Foligno - Matthews - Marner
Gally - Kerfoot - Nylander
Mikheyev - Tavares - Hyman
Spezza - Engvall - Simmonds

JT wont be 100% at any point in these playoffs, better to give him a defensive role with 2 other defensively responsible wingers if he comes back at all.

If JT comes back he’ll be ready, he’s got a young family and won’t risk his health. So if he comes back it’ll likely be in his usual spot, and Imo I would put Marner on his wing.

I fear people are taking the Jets too lightly, playoff hockey is a different animal.

I really hope this series isn't developing any bad habits. It's not really preparing us for the Jets. Montreal doesn't generate anything. We're not learning much here. I'm glad we have the depth and leadership that will help in this regard going forward.

Edit. Forgot to mention that the Habs really, really suck.

Edit 2. In both national languages. They suck.

We may have an interesting decision if Foligno is ready on Thurday.

Seems easy to me.

Foligno/Hyman - Matthews - Marner
Gally - Kerfoot - Nylander
Foligno/Hyman - Engvall - Mikheyev
Simmonds/Thornton - Thornton/Nash/Brooks - Spezza

Keep that 2nd line together, I’d love Hyman on the third line, Foligno where he looked good in the regular season. Fourth line has Spezza for sure, and then some combo of Simmonds, Thornton, Nash and Brooks.

Simmonds brings some pest and physicality, so IMO, it should be Thornton, Nash or Brooks for the last spot

I wonder why there's no Ron Maclean thread on the main board. He's in big trouble.
Didn't watch the intermission but ya making an AIDS/HIV joke like that is so out of character and odd for Ron. Definitely not acceptable

Edit: people seem to be thinking it was positive for drugs?? That would be out of character for him but socially acceptable i think

I'd go:

Foligno-Matthews-Marner
Chucky-Kerfoot-Nylander
Hyman-Engvall-Simmonds
Thornton-Spezza-Mikheyev

Mikheyev brings a bit more speed to that fourth line which helps Thornton and Spezza out. But if Mikeyhev is with Engvall and Hyman I'm ok with that too. That line was good earlier in the year.
