You totally missed the point, yes win your division, but and that's a huge but you shouldn't have to play the 2nd or third best team in the division 1st round to win the division.
12 games before now and ChristmasWe've got an interesting run to Christmas. Nine games, three against Buffalo. If we manage 5 or 6 points there, that will help immensely. We've got a few tough games, St. Louis and Edmonton have been great this year, standing 3rd and 4th in the league in points. Those will be good benchmark games for us. The Flyers and Colorado have been decent as well, and the more recently struggling Canucks and Flames. Success in this nine game stretch, could see us solidify a top three spot in the Division.

Than I'm (US) Thankful that we've played more games than almost anyone elseUS Thanksgiving has come and gone and often used as measuring stick for NHL teams..
Since the Salary Cap was instituted a decade ago teams in playoff spot at US Thanksgiving have had a ~75% playoff appearance record.
Those outside the playoffs at this time make up about ~25 % who end up clawing their way back in.
That's good.1 in a millionth...
Assuming that the 2 and 3 seed in each division are better than the 4 seed in the other, you logic is wrong.Yep they should seed the division 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6, 4 vs 5. They want to create rivalries by doing the 1 vs WC and 2 vs 3 but IMO when you guarantee you are going to eliminate 2 top seeds in the 1st round (either #2 or #3 is eliminated from each division in the 1st round), it creates a watered down playoffs.
Heck at one time we had a HUGE rivalry with St Louis and Chicago.. the good old Norris days or was it the Smythe?
Playoffs create rivalries.

Season is lost. No question about it.I didn't question it at the start of the year. Or during the rough start. Or during the losing streak. Or when Babcock was fired.
I still felt, the whole time, that they would make it. And the start from Keefe only solidified that.
But now I have to admit, it's looking more likely that they miss than make it. The losses have piled up too high, now. It's going to be pretty hard to go the rest of the season winning more than 3 of every 5. It's a pretty grim outlook from here.
