I think the opposite which is they may want to hold the band together and replicate as much as they can while Kucherov is in his window. They are in for a forever rebuild when this party is over.
It's funny because they've done such a good job turning over their roster go remain competitive. They went from a competitive team with a Stamkos, St Louis, Palat, Hedman, Bishop core to staying with Hagel, Guentzel, Vas and Kucherov. They haven't been shy to make those tough decisions - but maybe this regime is a little different

Action is fun!!! Even if it's not realistic... Chayka has already said it's unlikely. Only way it happens is if someone massively overpays... which is also unlikely. It's just people living in fantasy and having fun I guess.

Trade overpays are the alternate form of winning on HFBoards. Don't want to lose Knies but mid picture, it can work with overpay, gets us out of a jam.

can;t be overpaying AND letting the player have NMC, Chaka Khan repeating the mistakes of his predecessors.

The only people who don't think there will be NMC in this, are those who don't understand the market. Each and every higher dollar Free Agent this year will get one. It's a standard clause in contracts now, and there is no way around this. This isn't good/bad GM thing, it's a requirement to do business.

BTW... nobody overpaid on Cap hit either.

The opportunity to properly rebuild the blue and Centre positions - where Champuonships are won and lost.
Why do we even bother drafting wingers then? C and D are more important positions, but you need good wingers too. A decade of Nylander and he who shall not be named should give us a look at how wingers are important.

Knies is a unique player with an incredible skill set. Trading him for positional need is incredibly stupid.

Yep, pretty naive to think there won't be some form of trade protection.

Surprised it only cost a 5th to a division rival. This definitely checked a big box for this team and looks even better if Rielly can be moved.
A lower AAV and additional year on the contract can only be worth so much when there's still the alternative of just signing the player without restriction. Good on Chayka for taking the additional step and good on Tampa even for recognizing that anything looks good in the face of nothing at all. Never easy to cooperate with a divisional rival when both sides are trying to be competitive.

Marner’s exit because of his contract and Treliving’s reaction to a constrained asset management environment seems to have been understood as detrimental. I’m getting that sense by certain (albeit general) comments by Chayka, and certainly by the framing of hires that seems much more in line with a prudent, crowd out the noise managerial style.

Business as usual just nearly capsized the franchise.

Winning with Matthews now doesn’t obligate similar asset constraining contracts allocated to positions that have already been addressed.

Decisively moved on Woll. Same thing with Raddysh.

There’s an air of renewed awareness. I believe it must include a contract that doesn’t repeat Dubas’ mistakes.

Could be wrong though.
I wouldn't read too much into "comments", actions speak louder than words. We'll see.

I don't really see this as an overpayment. UFA's are always expensive, the cap should be going way up so the AAV if completely fine IMHO and the term is a bit much, but also unavoidable. That said, a NMC would be bad, and I hope we don't sign several more 30 years olds to long term deals, that also would be bad.

People out here talking about how Raddysh is going to miss Kucherov…

Matthews, Nylander, Knies, McKenna and Raddysh could be a CRAZY PP.

Most higher dollar free agents aren’t undrafted D on 1 year 0.9 AAV deal.

I suppose Knies is our higher AAV guy with no trade protection.
