It's similar to the Tanev deal in that they made the term longer than ideal in order to reduce the yearly average.

I thought that the Tanev signing would be okay if they got four solid to good years out of him. Never cared about the last two. He was very good in year one but missed most of his second season as a Leaf, and now his future looks uncertain.

The Raddysh signing is generally good. The Leafs needed to upgrade their defense and can really use a defenseman who is a threat to shoot on the PP. Sure, he probably had a career year last year, but with that shot, there's no reason he can't be a 50+ point PP quarterback for at least three or four years playing with the talent TOR has up front. If they get four or five quality seasons out of him, I won't really care what happens afterward. They can re-evaluate whether they need to buy him out five years from now.

they gave him both term and a high cap hit. i think its risky to give him both.

I don't think the cap hit is really high.

He would have been the best defenseman available in a weak UFA class. He's coming off a career season. Yes, he likely won't repeat it, but GMs always overpay for players under the conditions mentioned.

I honestly think he would have gotten at least $9.5 mil or more per if he had hit free agency.

He’ll be our best defensman for a few seasons atleast. A bad move would be not seizing an opportunity to upgrade your defense.

Reasonable move considering their nightmarish situation with no 1sts the two years after this. By the time Raddysh is getting too old to be worth that deal, Matthews and Nylander will also be quite old

Cap hit is fine, term is incredibly not fine.

Well, yes, but if the cap climbs significantly (which it very well might) then the relative cap charge of the later years probably won’t be that big of a deal. I’m in alignment with your assessment for the most part though.

Which means a yes vote in the poll, of course.

This

I was sure he was going to sign something around 10, so 8.5 is ok
But 8 years is way too long
Hopefully it will backfire right in Toronto's face, to the great pleasure of everyone
