I wouldn't read too much into "comments", actions speak louder than words. We'll see.

I don't really see this as an overpayment. UFA's are always expensive, the cap should be going way up so the AAV if completely fine IMHO and the term is a bit much, but also unavoidable. That said, a NMC would be bad, and I hope we don't sign several more 30 years olds to long term deals, that also would be bad.
Everyone’s happy today, that won’t be the case in years if he’s got a NMC. Long term this will be a boat anchor of epic propositions if he can’t be moved.

If the cap goes up as much as it should year 5-8 won't really mattter. I care about the next 3-4 years. Him alone at the point on the PP will open up guys to get better looks which makes our PP back to a potent threat

Who knows what the team will look like in 2032-33 just enjoy the next few years and let the GM worry about years 6-8 of that deal

Rielly signed at $7.5M when the cap was $82.5M and the Leafs top three forwards totalled over $33.5M. Next year the cap will be $104M and the top 3 forwards are earning $32.5M. It will sting less than Rielly's deal and in 2 years when the cap is $120M it probably won't evenbe a top 40 D salary. Right now he is tied with Provorov for 21st best paid D. Of course he is likely to be overpaid but the effect isn't quite like a few years ago.

Funny you compare him to Mo, the current boat anchor on the D.

An underrated part of this signing is that Raddysh plays with some Attitude. Let's bring in main players who can step up with attitude and grit when the time comes. We've been lacking on that heavily.

We've always relied on 4th line players or the 6th defenseman to provide physicality, but we need our higher-paid players to get in on the action.

Raddysh is one of those guys. I hope we add more

He said there was "some level of protection" and also "some flexibility".

I would like to know what this means. I despise NMCs and yes, he was going to be a UFA which gives him some say, but, the team must get flexibility.'

If there is one aspect we should agree is that Tre was responsible with his contract negotiations. Getting JT resigned cheap without a full NMC and also signing Stolie which at the time we were all surprised. OEL is also picked up with a very good contract.

If Leafs somehow win a Cup in this short window with those players, let's give credit where it is due. Leafs should get at least a 5 or 10 team list for the tail end of the contract. A full no move for the first 4-5 years might be expected.

Let's see how this works out, it is a very big deal in the long run.

I’ve had this discussion with some friends but if Radysh finishes with 10 goals, 50 points and powerplay looks good I’m happy with that. I feel that’s the minimum we need to see from Radysh. They are expecting more. What is the fair expectation?

Raddysh actually has some level of trade protection based on what Chayka said during his zoom call. We just don’t know what it is, he’s too tight lipped, lol.

Funny you compare him to Mo, the current boat anchor on the D.

Even if the cap didn’t rise Rielly’s contract was 9.09% of the cap compared to 8.17% for Raddysh.

So even in a make believe world where the cap stays stagnant it’s still cheaper but in the real world where it’s rising to 120 million it will only make up 7.08% of the cap.

Its done, not sure about the movement clauses. Was that confirmed? he probably has a limited NMC and thats ok.

Its a risk for sure. Late Bloomer? I surely hope so.

He always wanted to play here and its hard to find a RHD that can log those minutes. Overpayment ?
Looking at what he has done in his career? Sure seems so. Trust the GM and his people? They obviously see something.

I dont hate it . Its a wait and see but I am excited about the direction this team is going with its style

Its poor business to offer him not much more of a cap% going forward as a UFA than you gave Nick Paul isnt it?

Not only that but you sign RFA Moser to 6.75x8 a few months earlier? (not bad for a guy with career highs of 7 goals and 29 points in a season, no matter how good a defensive dman he might be)

Tampa should have at least offered Moser money. Its a bad look is all.
I would have made the deal if I were the Leafs.

I would not have given a full NMC, so once these details are ironed out we will see. Raddysh needs to be flexible, the Leafs just made him wealthy beyond his wildest dreams and gave him another year he needs.

It usually comes with these types of deals.

Could be an NMC for the first few seasons, but turns into an NTC 12-16 team list.

Full No move whole contract
Full no trade first 6 years
Last 2 years - 16 team no trade

Cap wages…

I love this. That 5th round pick is nothing and they get their guy before free agency. Will he libe up to the deal? Absolutely not. He's not going to put up 70 points year after year for 8 years. If he can be great for 2-3 years, very good for 2 more and starts falling off in the last 3 years you can buy him out or maybe he goes to Robidas Island.

Could be a good short term win assuming Raddysh can replicated the year he had on TB. So possible you might get 3-4 good years out of him.

Long term, it'll be a waste in later years trusting a big 8 year contract to a guy whose already 30.

But always a possibility it was a lucky year on TB and he never comes close to 70 pts again. His stats were no doubt inflated because Hedman barely played. Heddy is a big minutes eater. Only played 33 games at 18 min. Will Raddysh get big minutes and PP time on Leafs like TB? Im assuming yes as Rielly is dumped down or traded.

IMO. Should be a good signing for a few years if he holds up, then drifts down as he ages. But also possible he's a 40 pt dman player on Leafs and is a let down right away. He also doesnt have Vasi behind him playing like a HoF goalie.

If we want to compete as soon as next year, it had to be done. Leaf’s got the premier UFA D and it’s a good first step to remaking the entire D core. At the same time we also took the player from Tampa, a direct competition team in our division.
