The main issue being....he would have to forego UFA like Raddysh did, which I doubt he will - unless he has his heart set on Toronto and nowhere else.

There has been zero evidence of that being the case.

I would love Tuch to round off the top 6, but I just can't see it.

Who knows what he wants. There has to be a league wide buzz about us though. Players looking going... man, they had a decent cast to begin with... one down year... now add McKenna and Raddysh.... this is a team trying to do things.

I'm a Raddysh fan but this a very stupid way to look at it, no competent organization on earth "doesn't care" about the second HALF of a 68m contract and says to themselves "we'll just bury it". That's not how smart teams do business, horrible take.

I hope he performs for every single year of that contract but the concerns about term are perfectly valid.
So you’d rather they paid him 5 x $13.5 or 6 x $11 ? Can’t have it both ways.

It's simple. I don't trade Knies unless there are multiple high quality pieces coming back.

How many Americans will forego UFA bidding wars and a chance at a warm, no tax state to sign in Canada? You can say you don't know what he wants, but the fact is....he knows.

If I had a say, Knies is a more valuable player than Tuch. I have watch Tuch enough to know he plays when he wants. It is not about talent to score, Knies is more a team guy.
But Raddish, now that shows management wants to move ahead. Long term maybe hurts, but for now I am happy the team is trying.

He played all 82 games in his first season as a regular with the Bolts (23-24) and missed 9 games in each of his last 2 seasons kind of masked his improvement as a regular NHL dman.

Year 1:
Goals: 6
Points: 33
-3

Year 2 (expanded to 82 games):
Goals: 7
Points: 42
+10

Year 3 (expanded to 82 games):
Goals: 25
Points: 79
+24

Being so productive on the top PP shouldnt take away from the fact he improved everywhere.

Forgive me if I don't see the sunshine and rainbows at all times. I've been on this ride long enough to be wary of these types of contracts. Can you remember the last time one of them went well in Toronto?

We got the biggest free agent and the number one overall pick and it’s not even July 1. There’s no guarantees in life and hockey and this could all go down in flames. But we’re already going down in flames, so who cares?

Pretty pleased with this pickup. Obviously tons of risk with that contract, especially the term, but this could be a top pairing defenceman and QB specialist that we’ve so desperately needed. Basically for free, too.

I hope this works out and he’s on a Giordano career trajectory.

I find it interesting that this week:
- nothing leaked about the Woll trade beforehand
- Elliotte (a Rogers employee) broke the news of the coach signing minutes before Leafs announced it.
- Elliotte broke the Raddysh trade a few hours before Leafs announced it.

Clearly the Leafs are being exceptionally discreet, but are they also ensuring that it is a Rogers employee who is able to break the news before anyone else.?

Surprised it only cost a 5th to a division rival. This definitely checked a big box for this team and looks even better if Rielly can be moved.

You and I dropped the trade Knies idea two posts ago.. ok, I thought I had... I'm not trading Knies either, unless someone else gets desperate and does something really stupid.

Back to what I was trying to talk about... Tuch. Maybe he wants to be in a warm climate... maybe he grew up in Syracuse and likes the climate he's in... and wants to stay somewhat close? We don't know. We've got a spot to fill, he's a pretty ok fit... some pretty elite teammates...

It's something we should pursue, until we are told no.
