It was only a matter of time.

Well it was more so the injuries than him forcing the Flyers hand. That said, he showed in the preseason, despite Hextall being set on sending him back, the he could play in the NHL. As good as Laughton has played in the AHL, Gostisbehere was the best player on that team. He makes everyone on the ice better when he is out there. Can't wait to see him tomorrow.

It would not surprise me at all if becomes our best defenseman from this point on. That is because he is so skilled and the fact that our defense is already the worst in the NHL

Wouldn't surprise me if he plays one game and then another move is made.

I'm thinking the Flyers might go in that direction as well. Sign a veteran FA Sunday and send Ghost back down. Ghost is obviously good enough to be on the team now, but the Flyers aren't going anywhere this season anyway. That route might be best for his long-term development.

How did gost look last night? He look like he belongs?

He looked good as far as talent goes. Some nice quick passes and he can definately skate. He made a couple of rookie mistakes trying to jump into the play with one resulting in a Datsyuk goal.

As long as he learns from them and doesn't go rogue he'll be fine.

Below, Gostisbehere's pass didn't connect with Jones and then he tried to step up on the puck carrier Helm, but stumbled and lost his stick as Helm side-stepped him. A few seconds later, that stick could've been handy to try and break up the pass to Datsyuk, but Jones' sequence there also did the Flyers no favors either:

Flyers GM Ron Hextall announced this evening that defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere has a torn ACL and will have surgery on Thursday, Nov. 13. He will be out indefinitely.

The 21-year-old defenseman recorded five points, all assists, in five games with the Phantoms this season, which included three assists in his last two games.

He was recently recalled by the Flyers after injuries to Braydon Coburn and Andrew MacDonald on Oct. 24 and made his NHL debut on Oct. 25 vs. Detroit.

He appeared in two games with the Flyers, recording two shots on net and an average of 12:33 of ice time, before returning to Lehigh Valley on Nov. 1.

Tore his ACL in AHL action last night and will have surgery next week:

Really bad news for #Flyers prospect @s_ghost14. He’s out indefinitely with a torn ACL suffered last night in AHL game.

Gostisbehere will have surgery on Nov. 13 to repair torn ACL.

ACL tears are not as debilitating as they once were, and he could definitely have a full recovery, but it is certainly a setback.

Shayne Gostisbehere (torn ACL) said he is 4 weeks away from ending rehab. "I feel great." Peter DeLuca will examine him tonight

Hextall denied that Ghost was a month away in his post game media scramble. He told Timmeh that he either misunderstood Ghost or that Ghost said it incorrectly.

said he's 4 weeks from ending rehab that means he'll probably just start getting back on the ice then for non contact. Likely 6-8 weeks yet for game action and another 2 for NHL action

Agree on what he meant by rehab. He was talking more specific to working with the physical therapist on moving from the therapy progression/protocol to his normal off-ice training that he was able to do prior to the injury. With torn ACL, he is still a lot of time away from seeing NHL action.

Just to clarify for the two posters above, when he gets back he's going to the AHL, not the NHL. He'll at least spend the rest of this season there and probably some of next season.

@BroadStBull: Hexy says Ghost has begun skating.

Great to see he's on track to recovery. Skating this soon after a serious ACL injury is kind of absurd though...

It was only a partial tear (though like only 1-2 media outlets had the competency to report it as such) so tbh his recovery is right around where it should be.
