What's his ETA for full recovery? Hoping the tear doesn't affect his skating too badly

1st it was a partial tear, so hes on sched. Hes skating with AHL Lehigh Valley. Not taking line rushes or anything yet I don't think. Hes on track for a return to game action maybe 2nd week of March or so. Im no orthopedist, and Im not sure if surgery was even needed, but if it was the way they do it now a days is far less invasive and generally you're knee becomes stronger from it. Also the motion of skating creates positive resistance for your ACL. I don't anticipate his skating to be affected from this injury at all really.

The fact the partial tear occurred at a relatively young age should have a positive effect on the recovery as well. You'd never know Morgan Reilly blew out his knee and required full ACL surgery early in his career from the way he skates!

Was there a set back or are they just being cautious? I don't really see much reason to rush a comeback. Might as well take things slow and ensure his knee is stronger than ever next season.

From the video, some of Hextall's quotes:

Post-game March 5 [ Video title: 3-5-15: Hextall on Gostisbehere -- http://video.flyers.nhl.com/videocenter/ ]

•"A decision has not been made."
•"Shayne sees our doctor down here (Philadelphia) in about two weeks."
•"Has there been talk of shutting him down for the year? Yes, there has but the final decision hasn't been made."
•"He's not going to play in the near future, I can tell you that."
•"I haven't talked to Murph (Terry Murray). But we're going to talk and straighten it out."
•"There's not been a setback."

....

Bumping this thread. What are the chances he's a regular on Philly's D this season?

Probably pretty low barring a lot of injuries. He missed all of last year too so they'll need to see what he can bring at the AHL first

Wasn't he supposed to be that great PMD of the future? I remember reading lots of good things about this guy.

He still is supposed to be that great PMD. His knee injury put everything on hold, and the way hextall has been talking, he's gonna bring the prospects along slowly. I'm pretty excited to see some phantoms games this year with all of the new defensive prospects

He still is. Let him get some AHL games under his belt after his ACL injury. He missed a lot of time.

Oh I wasn't aware his injury was that bad. Fair enough, just picked the guy in my fantasy pool because of the great things I red about him last year, so I thought I'd ask Philly fans.

Thanks for the answers everyone!

I love this kid. You see him play, you see a more electrifying torey krug. Small, but crazy skilled and an absolute howitzer from the point.

And just to add, I think he will force some moves on the back end. I think either he makes the opening day lineup or is up before the 1/4 mark.

He's my favorite prospect. I would pay to see him play. He is a tremendous talent. Seeing him go down so early in the season was so depressing and the Phantoms were unwatchable after he got hurt. I think people seemed to forget how good he is. I think he'll remind us quickly this year.

And he can do cool stuff like this:

Yup. I think it will before January when he gets the call up.

I believe Hextall wants him to get some AHL time and then be able to bring him up, and move someone out. We are really set up for Our current D to be turned over quite quickly.

Ghost getting injured this past year means HF is under the radar right now. That will change.

I read that his grandfather had him watch tapes of Bobby Orr when learning how to play defense. You can definitely see that influence in the way he plays the game. I cant wait to see him in the orange and black

Everyone talks about how good Sanheim and Provorov(don't get me wrong, both are unreal!!), but I think Gostisbehere is a lot more electrifying and will put up a lot more PP points. The kid is unreal(and not just offensively) .... not only my favorite dman prospect on Flyers, but also in the NHL.

That youtube clip of him in the NCAA finals is awesome... I think the show he put on is one of the most impressive displays in a championship game by a player in all sports I have ever seen(Union won 7-4.. 1 goal, 2 assists, +7 in the game)

Shows that he can lift his game even more when need be.

Oh I wasn't that confident when I made the pick, but the more I read you guys, the better I feel good about it.

If I am not mistaken, I swore I read that he was actually healthy enough to start skating and maybe even play at the end of the last AHL season, but Hex held him out. In the meantime he was lifting and putting on some solid muscle weight which should help his game out tremendously.

I fully expect him to be called halfway up next season and stay on the team.

He was skating on his own in January: http://flyers.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=747226

Then actually with the Phantoms in February: http://www.courierpostonline.com/st...ere-flyers-acl-recovery-lost-season/23447607/

And yeh, around late february/early march it looked like he was going to be back for the end of the AHL season, but then they shut him down at the end of March as the risk/reward was not worth it when the Phantoms were already out of the playoffs most likely.
