Trade deadline might not be the right timing for such a trade since, mostly, it is rental players that are moved at that point in the season. It's not impossible, but unlikely, especially given the little time to make the deal once other team,s chances of making the playoffs have become clearer and their intention to sell or buy has just lately been more defined.
Of course, the hockey break because of the 4-Nations tournament will help in that regard, if a trade for an impact player can really be made at this time.
I just fear that, at this point, the potential impact players available will amount to projects and not be actual hockey trades where we would be winner-winner with our trade partner.
Summer might be more of a proper time for such deals as UFAs make some players on certain rosters more available (replaced by the UFAs).
Also, following this race to make the playoffs, teams will more properly assess where they are in their own cycles and make clear decisions as to which of their players might become available and which type of players they might want to acquire?
