Yeah we get it. You love AMac like Boxcar loves Manning.

Despite what everyone has been saying Amac has been average. Just not horrible. He still is prove to the same miscues and weak outlet passes. He's just been recovering better. I hope his value gets inflated and we can move him out asap.

It probably helps that he's been moved away from Ghost. MacDonald has certainly had some huge miscues and his level of play has been generally poor, but that pairing wasn't helping him given Ghost's own struggles.

Provorov has just been a huge boon to this team in regards to generating functional pairs.

I agree and that's all I'd expect out of him. His contract has turned out to be a mistake and it's just something we have to accept (for now). I think the only way for AMac to go is a buyout and it's too early this off season.

Provorov on the other hand has been everything as advertised.

Sorry the 5 on 5 scoring facts upset you. As a fan of the Flyers, I think it's great we have three guys in the top 10 for dmen scoring with 200+ 5 on 5 minutes.

No longer a prospect. Provorov is already a top 4 NHL defenseman.

Weak, couldn´t score on an eampty net against Dallas :P

Kidding, I love Provorov and Russia really need some quality D-men, so they can compete with Canada again =)

He seems like an absolute natural at his trade; he makes a mistake and you rarely if ever see that same mistake again. Every game he seems to come out slightly better than he was in just the game before. It's incredibly exciting.

I do. He's great at getting 5v5 points.

No he's not ... a solid 20 game stretch on one of the highest scoring teams and the by far the highest scoring defense in the league doesnt overshadow his entire career. His career high in even strength points before this year is 17.

Cannot believe that he is so good, so soon.

Played 25 minutes tonight.

I DVR all their games and I break down his game shift by shift. It is the little things he does so well that go unnoticed For 19 his hockey IQ is off the charts.

6th in the league in ES points for Dmen.....trailing only:

Karlsson
Burns
Buff
Keith
Hamilton

Yet some people said he was not NHL ready.

Really overrated player, he simply does not have the mental quickness or dynamic qualities of a top defenseman. He's still good, but young defensemen get overrated so often, especially early on. This one will become apparent over time.

Severson, Ekblad, Chychrun...the list goes on. All good players, none are #1s.

Shayne Gostisbehere last year, that guy you knew was the real deal based on how dominant he was in college. Provorov for all his points was never a dominant player in junior, and I watched him a lot in Brandon. And often when it mattered he was pretty bad.

Given that his smarts have been his greatest asset, I'm going to go on a hunch and say that there's nothing wrong with his mental quickness. As for dynamic qualities, I think players like Suter and Vlasic will be disappointed to learn that they don't have what it takes to be a top defenseman.

As good as Gostisbehere was last year, I think you'll find that a lot of Flyers fans have been more impressed by Provorov. And while he (along with his entire team) had a poor Memorial Cup, he did play extremely well during the WJC. I also find myself wondering how the CHL Defenseman of the Year somehow didn't dominate a league that he was awarded for dominating in.

When I saw you posted in this thread I thought it would be along the lines of "I've been critical of Provorov in the past but his play at the NHL level this year has made me rethink my opinion on this player and his future upside"

Guess some people it's too hard to admit that they might be wrong on a player.

That's an odd comparison given the general impression among fans that Provorov will be the better all-around player.

Whatever dude. Docbenton watched him lots don't you know?

"REALLY OVERRATED PLAYER" :amazed:

really ??

we'll have to come back to this in about 2/3 years when Provy is nearing the ripe old age of 21/22 :sarcasm:

Mental quickness for defensemen is something that comes with experience after going through the motions so many times they're recognize and respond to situations without having to think about them instinctively. Niskanen was an absolute trainwreck defensively when he was starting out in Dallas yet is a superb defensive defenseman now. Stralman and Petry are other examples. They didn't have some epiphany, their reflexes just adapted after they played enough games.

Provorov already looks like he's playing on autopilot when it comes to solving regular problems defensemen are facing. If he doesn't regress he looks like he could evolve into a bigger more physical Kimmo Timonen.

I love how TMac sent out his goon Mc David out to harass Provorov. Low class stuff but Provo held his own!!! :yo:

Yeah right. Gostisbehere is so good that Hakstol gives him less icetime than the rookie Provorov.
