So just in terms of this thread, if JP, Marner etc are no longer considered prospects and don't have threads, should this guy? over 25 GP and I think he has pretty well shown that he will never again play anywhere except the NHL.

This thread is civil and tries to be informative

He looks so good already. I am exited for his future. If he ends up like Suter, that would make him the best on the flyers since Pronger I guess?

Suter/Timonen type player. Maybe a little higher offensive ceiling. Minute munching two way dman who is elite defensively.

I like Suter's skating better. He seems more dynamic than Provorov

I don't think I can disagree any more with this statement. Provorov, though he can look awkward, devours ice when he has to....it's just, where a Suter comparison can come in, he's very economical and usually already in position. But I'd flip both statements and not think twice about it personally. I don't think Suter is the best skater and certainly less mobile and dynamic compared to Provorov's skating.

Provorov has the whole deceptive skating thing going on and I think it's because of his hunched over style. He doesn't look like he's skating all that fast but then you realize he just beat out that other guy to the puck and it wasn't even all that close.

It's not skating alone. It's positioning and using the stick well. He just covers a great amount of ice with it and. His best asset is decision making. He seems to know very well at this young age what the best defensive option in any particular situation is. That you can't teach. It's how his head works and is works remarkably well.

Suter is actually a very good skater. You can see it every fall when he is fresh. After that he conserves energy on the ice because he plays so many minutes, and uses his brain and positioning rather than speed.

If Provorov is indeed a young Suter the PHI has got someone very special that can anchor their D for the next decade at a minimum.

Zubov (26 years old in his first season for Dallas) was never this good defensively until Hitchcock.

Provorov is still teenager.

I thought Zubov was an unsung player for NY. He was vital component to that team in their cup in 94. He only got better when he went to Dallas. He was good and got better.

I always thought Suter would hold up better than Weber because of his skating.

More so because of his brain and technique. Suter is strong, but uses it in subtle ways, whereas Weber is a beast and uses his strength to crush people. Generalizing here, but what goes around, comes around...players who play overly physical end up breaking down sooner.

If Provorov has the career Zubov or Suter do, we'll all be very happy. Very smart young player.

That said, he turns 20 tonight at midnight, and he's never going back to the AHL or Jr, so he might no longer be a 'prospect.' :)

he's fantastic one season in...one of the very few bright spots for Philly this year...he's going to be a top defensemen in this league for a loooongg time.

The kid is like a sponge and he is being force fed this year. The staff is putting a lot on his plate and I cannot wait for the day he has help.
