The kid is like a sponge and he is being force fed this year. The staff is putting a lot on his plate and I cannot wait for the day he has help.

I expected him to have the "Couturier" treatment. #1PK, shutdown pairing at even strength and no PP.

He's been the only generator of offense on PP2, has led the team by a LOT at PK time, and has been on our #1 even strength unit as well. All this while excelling. I really did not expect him to be this good this soon. I was one of those who thought Sanheim was still the better prospect (and he still may be) but Provorov has really impressed me.

He's also tied for 2nd on the team overall in 5v5 points and 13th in NHL among dmen in 5v5 scoring. Kid has been killing it offensively as well. Flyers only have 1 5v5 goal in last 5 games and only 12 in last 14. Imagine if Provorov was on a team that could actually score at 5v5. He's only 1 pt away from being top 10. He could be challenging for top 5 on a legit offense in 5v5 scoring.

Pretty sure he's past the point of being a prospect at this point. Kids a full fledged NHLer!

Fully fledged top pairing defenseman even!

Leads team in average TOI by 1:30.
Joint 12th in EV pts for Dmen.
Top 30 amongst NHL Dmen in 5v5 P/60.

Over 50% Corsi despite seeing toughest QoC on the team with 2nd toughest zone starts (after Gudas) and dragging around Andrew MacDonald.

He is just awesome.

He's exceeded all of my expectations so far. Knew he was a great prospect, didn't expect him to be this good this soon.

He's shown flashes of elite potential, but in between those flashes he still maintains a very high level of play. Easily the most consistent player on the team this year. Really couldn't be happier.

Now top 10 among dmen in 5v5 scoring and on the 3rd to worst 5v5 scoring team in the league ...

He plays and carries himself like a 10 year veteran already. Hes going to be really good for a really long time.

this offseason.....

trade for a good defensive Dman to take Provy off all the penalty kills and give him more time on the PP's ..... I think he's got a whole lot more to offer yet especially offensively, turn him LOOSE

He is always going to be a PK fixture tbh... even when Morin comes up next year Provorov, Morin and Gudas will be 3/4 of the PK Dmen. As he is a very good PK Dman... only him and Gudas really are atm on the team.

All that will happen as he gets older is he will go from 22 minutes a night to 25 minutes... and the extra 3 mins will include more PP time.

Will be nice to see him given more to work with on PP2 next year with likely arrival of Lindblom and Sanheim to that unit.

Lindblom
Konecny -- Couturier
Provorov -- Sanheim

Should be fun.

Do you guys think provorov will be similar to Karlsson and burns or hjalmarsson and maata?

I know people hate comparisons to HOFers, but Provorov reminds me of Ray Bourque and the way he plays. He's so smart out there. He's a real treat to watch the way he thinks and plays the game. As others have pointed out, when he gets to play with other defensemen of considerable skill, he's going to be something else to watch. Right now, he's carrying a bad Philadelphia defense and has done a remarkable job. I don't know of any other defenseman who has done the job in his rookie year like Provorov has done.

There's going to be a Norris trophy or two in his future.

Interesting that last year only 1 of those guys was there. Provorov changes a lot for us and those other players helps all that much more.

I have been most impressed with his attitude. It was one of his strengths coming in, but he wants to be perfect out there. He wants to learn. When he gets a little more confidence and more leeway with the coaches, look out.

It's been said many times on the main board that (stylistically) Provorov is similar to Ray Bourque. They nonchalantly separate skaters from the puck by being perfectly positioned. They play active defense, as opposed to reactive defense by most D in the NHL. Bourque, Drew Daughty and Provorov are the three D that did/do that. It drives the opposition crazy. Just ask Jaromir Jarg. Provorov has all the tools. The rest is up to him and the Flyers coaches/management team.

saw a couple of his games for flyers this year. the guy was exceptional in all of them. such a treat to watch.

He's really the only thing worth watching on the Flyers esp with Konecny out.

moved to the #1 PP unit last night alongside Gost (had an assist on a great keep in)..also on the #1 PK unit and played a career high 27 mins matched up against Crosby in a 4-0 shutout. The kid just keeps getting better and better. Incredible rookie year.

He is a big part of the future here. His play away from the puck is outstanding. His hockey smarts is off the charts, just watch the little things he does so well. Not flashy at all just a 20 year old who will be a horse. I could go on and on about him. The sky is the limit for him.

He anticipates the play so well. That's what I noticed about him last night.

His play on the PP assist was awesome, he kept the puck at the line with his foot, drew in 2 defenders towards him, and made the right pass to Giroux before getting it back and giving it to a now wide open Ghost for the shot.

Provorov won the Barry Ashbee Trophy for Flyers best defenseman. Not much competition but still impressive for a rookie.
