I wouldn't doubt if he is eventually dealt to Kelowna. Holland has a lot of ties to Kelowna and its management and I can see him pulling some magic and getting PG and Kelowna make a deal(similar the whole Draisaitl deal that Oilers pretty much was the mastermind of that sent him from PA to Kel)... Kelowna will once again be a powerhouse so this is something that I can see happen.

I think the biggest reason Detroit wants him in the WHL is so he can play #1 minutes and #1 PP minutes. So while PG may not be a good team, it IS a good opportunity for Cholowski to get that type of usage. Kelowna has Foote and Johansen, so not sure he would get as big a role there.

This is a strange move considering he played an extra year of Junior A to get to college when he could have spent those two year already in junior, no?

Not saying it's a bad move or that it won't work, obviously he has had a change of heart for some reason re: NCAA.

I like him as a prospect and hope he succeeds this season with the Cougars. What are his odds at the Canadian WJC team?

He had a previous commitment there, and by all accounts is a kid who does well academically. I think Juniors would have been the more appropriate path from the beginning, considering he was pretty physically underdevloped last season. But looks like Detroit wanted to see how it went before trying to override his decision. Ahcan came in and grabbed the #1 PP spot, and he got ok usage but probably was a bit outmatched physically.

I think WHL makes the most sense for him at this point, and now that he has made a bunch of progress with gaining weight hopefully he steps into the WHL and produces and logs big minutes and steals a spot on Team Canada.

Johansen is a late b-day so he should be in the AHL. If Cholowski was trade there he'd probably be on the top pairing with Foote. Regina is another team that will load up but I think they'll go after Clague+Fleury

Oh true, didn't think to look at his DOB. Might not be a bad idea then.

Johansen will be gone next year in Caps organization(wont be back as a 20 year old)so Kelowna will definitely be looking to add another top dman... IMO he will get all prime mins with Foote. I think this is the perfect place for him to develop

edit-oops looks like others chimed in while I was writing this lol

Holland has a house in the Okanagan and can be seen regularly watching Kelowna Rocket games(I know, its weird seeing he is a GM in Detroit yet spends a lot of time there during the season haha)... IMO this is the perfect place for him to be

Yeah, I'm familiar with his Western Canada ties. Our Director of Amateur Scouting Tyler Wright has a house right down the street from him as well. So I'm sure they will keep very close tabs on Cholowski and Rasmussen in the W next year.

Anyone get to watch him and have any updates on how he's looked? Stats look good so far but hard to tell what that means without the eye test.

12 points in his last 6 games.

39 points (13+26) in 37 games this season. Currently leads his team in points and +/-. Looks quite impressive statistically and in highlights.

Any input from people watching the WHL?

Im hoping he gets traded at deadline... Not just for him, but for PG Cougars as well. They can get a real good return to plan for their future. PG already got a great return unloading one of the older guys the other day

One of the weirdest prospects right now. I completely forget he exists sometimes and his potential is such a question as well. Anyone else get this vibe lol

He's a Detroit prospect so he gets slept on, unfortunately, but he's a great player gonna be awesome seeing him and Jokijarju play together on the same pairing :D

Definitely, at the time he was drafted most knew very little about Cholo. He didn't get much exposure in his draft+1 year due to playing behind a stacked D core on a college team. Now he has finally caught some publicity playing in the CHL, I think most will get to know his name sooner then later.

Couldnt have worked better for PG having him sent to them

PG got a stud, fans got to see him, PG gets a massive youth return and Portland looks unreal.. Win win win win situation

Yeah and Matvichuk has nothing but great things to say about Cholowski. He had an impact here on and off the ice.

He is such a slick dman. Ive watched hin a couple times now since going to Portland and he dominates the game. Smooth skating and an extreme high iq. He is on a different level when he plays. Just one of those guys that always makes the right decision with the puck and even if he makes a very random screw up, it still somehow works in his favor.

Seems like he was on the ice the whole 60 mins each game

Yep, he looked good in training camp for the wings but his one year in the NCAA kinda had people down on him a bit. Then he went to the WHL and was the best player on his team, I think at the time of the trade he was actually leading that team in scoring.

He was more of a 2nd round projected prospect too so people didnt really know him predraft either. Looks like hes doing about as well as you can hope for a dman in that league though
