I had Zadina number one but Rasmussen and Cholowski second and third for the wings. I meant that I think most fans had Hronek ahead onhis chances to make the team, not in prospect rankings. Everything the team said led most fans to think Hronek was making it, but Cholowski like you said kicked the door wide open and made the team

I agree, it wasn't meant as a shot at you Newfy. I just have always believed Cholowski was capable of having this kind of camp. I bought the WHL package last year just to watch him and Rasmussen and they didn't disappoint. Also for the record I found the WHL the best of the leagues I have done that with as it was the last Major Junior league I got a package for having had both the Q and O in years past. Thinking about doing it again just because of the draft year and the players in the WHL as Dach and Cozens might be crucial to our future if we don't get lucky with Hughes.

Cholowski is a tireless worker and has a lot of tools to work with. I still think he is scratching the surface on what he can be. He has a tremendous ceiling, I wouldn't bet everything he reaches it, but man it is hard not to like the progress he has made, especially in the last 18 months.

Remember how he didn't even make Pronman's honorable mentions?

"I know some scouts who were impressed by him in the WHL, and if this is the player he is consistently in the AHL this season, I could see him panning out as a 4-5 defenseman in the NHL."

TBH, Ive seen Cholowski play plenty in the WHL and he didn't look as good as he did right now.

He may not have but Pronman hasn't really been high on him from the beginning and he's now at the point where it's obvious he's better than Pronman thought and he just really doesn't want to come to that realization.

Looks like he will start on the first line with DeKeyser. With the quality of the Wings D, he may stay there for the season.

They weren’t my top ranked guys, but that’s ok because it’s been awhile since me and TZE could argue about which really good players are better.

Hopefully we are doing that again soon. :)

Been trying to tell the Wings fans since the get go, this kid is special. His brother is 6'4" he was always going to grow. He was better then Fabbro in the BCHL and is proving it now. Pronman gets so many things wrong.

Well I think Zadina is going to be a big factor, I hope he is the guy you believe he will be.

Cholowski and Rasmussen have a maturity on and off the ice that really makes buying into their game in a big way easy for me. Not on the same talent level as hopefully Ras and Cholo but it is one of the reasons I liked Bertuzzi a lot as a prospect even when he was down our group lists.

The thing I like most about Cholowski is he always has a plan on where he is going with the puck. He is really calm with the puck and also does a lot of quick one touch passing. He really processes the game at a quick level and that is generally key with NHL guys. He will have to improve other areas and he will still have some bumpy moments but he has a lot of talent, works hard and has gained the physical tools to put it all together. I don't think it is this year, but there is a ton to like about Cholowski, he is a smooth player and he does have higher potential.

Pronman is legit awful at his job. What that clown thinks of any prospects holds zero weight. Cant believe hes paid money. Joke.

I had Hronek as my top guy prior to this draft, but yeah those are really good points.

It’s crazy how different of a player Cholowski looks like now compared to when he was playing college hockey. Obviously that is a result of putting a ton of work in. I hope he keeps up his good pre-season play because I really like what I have seen from him over the last few weeks.

The weirdest thing that stands out to me is his development path. He played BCHL then college then WHL. If he sees AHL before the NHL has any prospects path seen so many different leagues before ?

Louis Leblanc has also a funny path.

He is starting in the NHL. I don't see how it is different than guys that go USDP - NCAA - CHL - AHL - NHL. Its not to uncommon of a path.

He finally relented on Rasmussen. Hopefully he will have to say the same shortly on Cholo. What confused me is Pronman kept with the I have previous evaluations on both guys and unfortunately for him a lot of this growth was there if you watched them enough in the WHL. Cholowski took another step this summer, but he keeps trotting out the same scouting report on him and it is just wrong at this point.

It happens, he has to watch a lot of guys and I get it. But you can tell sometimes he sticks with his initial impression a bit long.

I appreciate what Pronman does, I like reading his content. We just don't always agree on players.

EDIT: Pronman appears to be starting to make the concession right on queue

Wow, talk about retconning his opinion on Cholowski.

I was going to say something about the edit yesterday but I've complained about Pronman's view of Cholo enough.

TBH I lost it when I saw he had EP #1 and Cholo #15, talk about going against everything he's been saying all summer.

Lets not act like Cholowski hasn't made huge strides in his development in the last few month.
It was less than a month ago he said this:

I know some scouts who were impressed by him in the WHL, and if this is the player he is consistently in the AHL this season, I could see him panning out as a 4-5 defenseman in the NHL.

He was also nowhere to be seen on Pronman's top 100 prospect list less than a month ago. So tbh it just seems like Pronman realized he messed up and is now talking up Cholowski's "second half of last season" to sound like he actually watched him play.

It was less than a month ago, Cholowski was not playing hockey...

I was quite down on Cholowski among Detroit prospects, but he already looks better than I expected him to be several years down the road. I will be quite glad for him to make me wrong.

This is the rest of that excerpt from his september 11 article ranking prospects at the prospect tourney.

Cholowski was Detroit’s best defenseman and stood out consistently due to his mobility and puck-moving ability. He impacted the transition game and ran the top power play unit well, showing more touch with the puck than I remember seeing in past viewings. I know some scouts who were impressed by him in the WHL, and if this is the player he is consistently in the AHL this season, I could see him panning out as a 4-5 defenseman in the NHL.
The next day he omitted him from the 100 prospects and HMs, 6 other wings prospects made the list.

3 weeks.

tbh I just hate how luke warm he acts toward certain players until he can't possibly act like it anymore and be taken seriously.
