Kyper: Lawrence Gillman gone, nope just kidding he's coming back.//update: he's gone

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates

The top of the management structure will remain intact. In addition to Dubas, Brandon Pridham, and team president Brendan Shanahan, we can confirm that Laurence Gilman will be sticking around as assistant GM and senior vice president of the Marlies.

Gilman has been in the mix for GM jobs in recent years. He was reportedly a leading candidate for the Vancouver Canucks GM job, which ultimately went to Patrik Allvin.
Given this news, should the title of this thread be updated to reflect Gilman staying around? I was confused when I saw this thread pop up again...

I think anyone who is watching the teams that are successful in the playoffs can see just how poorly constructed this team is . There is a huge difference between having some really good players and being a really good team that can compete up and down the lineup .

True, it's nice having a team like the Leafs that competes right up and down the lineup.

The most overrated member of this management group by a long shot. Where was his genius when signing the big four to those disastrous cap hits? Crickets......
'Disastrous'

You do realize he's not the one necessarily negotiating the deals, right?

Lol yeah. I don't think he's really in charge of handing them out he's just here to make sure that it fits in when they do

The only argument I have against him is why the hell he created a cba with so many loopholes as one of the original writers of the deal lol

Not positive but I think Dubas makes the salary choices.
Pridham is the guy Dubas goes to with a number and asks if he can make that work.

Aside from the first two games vs Colorado the leafs were the only other team in three post seasons to make the lightning look beatable over a 7 game series. Sucks it was round 1, again but thems the breaks. Doesn’t mean the team isn’t good or very close.
The two finalists, St. Louis and Toronto have been the best teams this post season if you actually watch the games.
There was a lot of mediocre play in the pacific and metro brackets imo

Wow - it's amost like Kypreous is a moron or something. Who would have thought?

Yeah, its been 4 years, perhaps Kyle should look in the mirror.
Genuinely curious - if they were to fire Dubas tomorrow, who would be your top pick to come in as GM? I'm not really up to date with who is out there/who would be available.

No idea but mute point since they decided to keep the crew together before playoffs started.

Teams have given votes of confidence before and fired a coach/GM weeks later. Boston just did it with Cassidy.

Crazier things have happened. If its Christmas time and the Leafs aren't in a playoff spot, I think it would be pretty fair to clean house right then and there.

I'm more just curious who the people that don't like Dubas would prefer to have running the show. Realistically both he and Keefe (and probably Shanahan) should all be gone if this team can't get past the first round again.

I don't think it's a moot point. This is a message board. Most of the things we discuss on here are far-fetched. Who would you have running things?

I have no idea. That would be up to Leaf management.

I'm not asking you to tell me what Leafs Management would do. I'm asking you what ToneDog would do.

Would Shanahan be trusted with that decision again?
He seems to have gotten things wrong at every turn.
In my post I mentioned he would obviously be gone as well. If this team doesn't get past the first round this coming season there is really no reason to bring anyone back.

Depends if he stays or goes. Unlike when they fired the coach you let everybody know the job is open and you interview and hire the best candidate.

I go through the interview process like any company would and hire the best candidate.

Keefe should have been let go, IMO.
I think Dubas deserves another season based on the team he assembled but not removing Keefe is a black mark on his record for sure.

Personally, with Trotz and Cassidy (and a few other good candidates available) I would would have liked to see a coaching change. I don't think Keefe is a bad coach but there were some high end options out there this summer.

I think the only thing that saved Dubas was the manner in which the Tampa series ended. If the team can't get over the hump this year there's no reason to try it again.

Kypreos is not plugged in on the Leafs at all.
He and Bourne last season said it was the worst lineup, in the Dubas era.

Leafs smash records, get home ice...

A coach the led a team to a points record, deserves to go?

Yes, he's shown he can't get them over the hump when the games matter.
Do you believe he was crucial to the record breaking season? Another coach wouldn't have had the same or better results?
