There's your change in management! :sarcasm:

I do recall Gilman being an instrumental figure with the expansion draft process at the very least.

Almost every boss I had would go to the wall defending the terrible hires they made. Their egos wouldn't allow them to admit they made a mistake. Some went down with the ship. Unfortunately, too many stayed on and kept making the same mistake over and over and over. It's really good being the boss.

Shanny ate up whatever Dubas was selling him even during the Lou years which is why Shanny got nervous and blocked Colorado.

This is Dubas' "creation" not Shanny's. He got sucked in and seems is too far gone now
At the initial interview

Shanahan- “Explain this math to me again and how it’s going to make this team great”

Dubas - “Look into my eyes…..”

I get Pridham and Gillman mixed up, not sure that I should care that Gillman is leaving.
In fact lets bring in a more established, or up and coming rock star to fill his role.

DO NOT EVER LEAVE Brandon Pridham, my heart skipped a beat when I first read the thread title.
What’s so great about Brandon Pridham?

Rumour is he is a cap genius. Probably explains why we do so well in the regular season and choke in the playoffs where there is no cap.
For all the praises sung his way, it doesn't seem to have been much use. Matthews and Marner's caphits increasing in 2020 because their base salary was below league minimum is the sort of thing you'd think a cap genius would know to avoid.

In those situations you have two star rfas who were instant on bonus heavy contract structures. There's not much manuvering around that if thats what the team has decided to do to get a guy signed.

The Leafs have engaged in some fairly complex cap/contract manuvering, between things like the high number of paper transactions they do with Marlies guys to grow daily capspace, to things like the 2019 Clarkson trade

I think NHL brass faun over these cap guru's because for the most part they are all high school educated former players with no Uni experience. All it would take is a good accountant to be good at it. It's numbers and legal loopholes. Not rocket biology ;)

What is Gillman's specialty? Seemed like more of a paper work guy than a big architect with a vision, but sounds like he was also in line for the Vancouver job.

yeah if only we had guys like kadri and jvr on the team, we'd never lose a series!

And hilariously enough, those guys got the closest to seeing the second round than this current core of massive underachievers have. If only they didn’t blow that lead with 10 mins left.

Btw, those guys were never favorites either.

jvr has 9 points in his last 25 playoff games but yeah we're really missing his hard work and toughness lol
