Most of those people don't realize all teams use analytics. Not just the Leafs. I guarantee they would love a Mike Milbury in the GM seat. Hell most of them want Lou with all his shit contracts.

I am not saying Dubas is perfect by any means, but it is hilarious reading some of the takes on here.

You might be joking, but I am not sure of some others on here.
I mean, think of how dumb the average (or median) person is. Half of people are dumber. It's not that surprising.

Dubas really isn't even that much of an "analytics" GM and has made several moves contrary to what some of the public metrics and analytics writers would advocate for.

Yet no one criticizes Carolina the same way, especially when they have literally one of the original founders of the NHL analytics movement (Tulsky) as the de facto GM.

Most people are incapable of being rational about the Leafs.

Just so everyone is aware, Gilman was brought in as Dubas' replacement. He wasn't brought in by Lou, or anyone who is not still here. He is as much of a "Dubas" or "Shanny" guy as anyone else in that front office.

At the same time, he didn't really fill a role anymore (from a hockey perspective), and the Marlies fell off of a cliff with him in charge. It is not really his fault as much as Moore and Hunter, but at the same time, he did not bring anything that really made you think he was irreplaceable (especially over a guy like Hardy).

But wasn't Shanny the one who started it all in the first place, and ultimately decides everything?
That’s how Dubas got him. Dubas goes to an interview, starts spouting off stories of high cap hit 11+ M star players finessing their way to the Stanley Cup on the back of advanced stats and Shanahan’s cult brainwashing was initiated.

I think people have tied the success of Dubas to proof of the success of analytics. If Dubas fails, it’s not going to mean that analytics are useless. It also doesn’t mean that the next GM has to be Mike Milbury.
Yes it’s almost a partisan thing. I feel he’s evolved on analytics too, a great tool but also an emerging understanding of the nuances. I expect this off season to see further evolution. He’s just the GM, I praise some of his moves and bash others, he doesn’t represent some deep philosophical hockey point of view to me.

I just want a hybrid approach.
The team is good. Take away Matthews, Nylander, Tavares, Marner and Reilly, less good.
I want depth players who are hard to play against. I want players who want to win at all costs. I want Darcy tuckers, corsons, kadris, domi, jvr. Guys who go into corners, guys who go to the net hard. Guys who come and compete everyday.

Domi isn’t great but I just remember him rocking a few guys with elbows to the head vs Jersey.

To be fair to Dubas any GM taking away their best 5 players the team is going to look less good.

yeah if only we had guys like kadri and jvr on the team, we'd never lose a series!

he didn’t bring in any of those players less Tavares.

Anyone can make the post season by giving those players a regular shift in the nhl.

Any of those players and we prob win all of the last three.

Heck, Down Town Conner Brown may have been enough.

I understand the point you were making earlier now.

It is fair comment to say we’ve never seen a portion of the fan base so attached to a GM of all things, it’s almost like the allegiance to him supersedes the team. I’ve always found it really weird to be honest, the guy is infallible, yet he’s accomplished nothing.
I don't think that is remotely true. I can only speak for myself, but if Pascal, Trotz and Gretzky came in and replaced Dubas, Keefe and Shanny tomorrow, it wouldn't affect me one iota.

I wasn’t speaking to you directly, but it’s interesting you’re responding as though I am.

It is weird. Some even parade around with a Dubas avatar and proclaim how elite the team is annually

I think it comes from the early 2010s online community where an entire generation of fans came up wanting to be the tech disruptor, Jonah Hill in Moneyball for the hockey world. Dubas is a big part of that.

Our entire front office is solely populated with dubas men at this point. No wonder they all think they're doing great

Even lou had different opinions up there

Hasn’t lou been bringing his son every where he goes and didn’t want to keep trots because he wanted management position that lou wants to give to his son Chris?

Dubas would be a great Personnel man for the draft. He kills it compared to Hunter. That's a fact. But he also sucks ass at contract negotiations and is ok on trades (Jim Benning says hi). That would be a great assistant GM in my books.

His expected wins and goals are off the charts

We think it’s a conspiracy now?

Maybe they want Dubas to stay because he built an extremely good hockey team?
Or he f***ed up a really good hockey team

I get Pridham and Gillman mixed up, not sure that I should care that Gillman is leaving.
In fact lets bring in a more established, or up and coming rock star to fill his role.

DO NOT EVER LEAVE Brandon Pridham, my heart skipped a beat when I first read the thread title.
sarcasm?
