Yep lol. Again we didn't hear peep from Shanny about how anything related to hockey operations or the offseason plan impacting his decision.

Instead it was his last minute chats with Dubas about contract stuff that threw everything away.

It's about commitment, communication and betrayal. If you're planning a wedding and your partner suddenly declares indirectly and publicly that they have serious doubts, then say everything is actually ok but here are some prenuptials maybe that would fundamentally alter the relationship.

Shanahan isn't blameless in this era of non success. You could argue that he should be on thin ice. I don't think he's on trial here for how he handled his situation. For me, he's the closest advocate for the organization itself in this crisis.

oh God lol Kyle, you had the deal! All you had to do was sign. I respect Shanny for standing his ground. I think that will flow through the organization.

Shanny did what dubas couldn't.

This is what we are offering you, take it or leave it. This isn't a f***ing charity. This is TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS.

Hopefully the new GM will have the same big balls that Shanny does in holding firm on whats BEST for the LEAFS

Toffoli is a better player than tavares...

70 pt trash skating winger in a defensive as f*** system

80 pt trash skating center in an offensive

Neither was Dubas...

Or shanny/keefe

Heck the big 4 arent good enough to be worth 40M collectively yet they still do

This is a straight B class franchise which has the advantage of being in the 2nd biggest market in the league

Were terrible top down

I can deal with soulless corpo speak owners, but the expectation is that they keep the behind the scenes part of the team clean and foot the bills without complaining. We’re getting the worst of both worlds where the behind the scenes is chaotic like you’d expect with a one-man owner but we still have to conform to corporate level HR mandates to play a soft inclusive game.

The best lesson from this would be Dubas becomes a low paid AGM going forward. That would teach him about the greed.

This doesn't seem like Kyle Dubas. Kind of shocked how this went down.

the character assassination that took place after babcock got fired in the media as if babcock is an evil person when only a handful of players had a beef with him not every player ever coached by babcock called babcock names btw

that kind of character assassination in the media was uncalled for IMO.

the way media portrayed babcock as if he is a Sith Lord and the leaks that happened.... if that doesn't tell you the kind of person Dubas is then i don't know what to say anymore man

I bet no lessons will be learned. Someone in the NHL will hire Kyle Dubas to be a President/GM and he'll get another playground to prove his genius. He may or may not succeed depending upon his fortune to hit on players in the lottery. He's learned a ton here. There are mistakes he probably won't make again.

You don't ask for more money last minute with the big corps. As Friedman says they don't like last minute surprises.

To be honest I think this is hockey gods finally having mercy on the Leafs Nation. Step 1 was always to get rid of dubas to have any sustained success and progress in the Leafs land.

Hockey gods finally intervened on Leafs Nation's behalf to right the ship.

seems like a cosmic hand came in to finally provide balance and give the conspirators theirs and pave path for the Leafs to move in the right direction FINALLY

On the heels on attempting to garner public sympathy by saying it's a family decision and will be the Leafs or nobody. Although not full confirmed, but judging by a few sources, it seems that Dubas not only upped his salary requirements by a lot -- he also demanded more power and full autonomy to be left alone and work in a silo.

And, like you said, that's a huge last minute surprise and appears to be a rather large power grab by someone who hasn't been able to advance with elite talent on his roster.

No he’s not trash overall. He’s just a trash negotiator who’s team always plays soft perimeter hockey and tries to reinvent the style of hockey.

Also seems like an entitled brat.

The thing is, with how everything was handled the soft part looks like it might come from Shanahan/the board now. Shanny talks about the risks of concussions and the evils of fighting more than he talks about needing a physical team.

I really hope the blocked trades were on an asset/strategic basis, not “sorry, this player doesn’t align with Bell/Rogers mission for a more inclusive game”. We already know a Dubas got shot down on hiring Campbells old goalie coach because of a tweet he made, I find it hard to believe Dubas didn’t do his due diligence on the guy vs knowing about his opinions and not caring until the board forced his hand.

He either went all in with a shit hand, or didn't actually want to continue as GM unless they made him an impossibly good offer.

He lost.

Kyle Dubas’ power play misfired. How appropo.

Seriously, does Kyle Dubas strike you as someone who will just take the best hockey job available if no GM position is available or as someone who would just join TSN or Sportsnet and wait years if he has to for an offer to be a general manager again? I see him as the later type. And you know he'd be a natural on one of those panels. And draw in a younger demographic.

I agree with the point and the excerpts. Why does anyones opinion here hold any value?
You may be new here, but we only accept contributions on here from the most brilliant thinkers the world has ever known. The required credentials for sharing opinions on here are sky high.

Anyway, I think Dumbass was the worst GM in history AINEC

I think they have a plan, but likely dont know the full scope of their options. Itll be a busy weekend for them.
I think this is the first time after firing Dubas they didn't have a plan. Sounded like Dubas was plan A up until Monday at the press conference.
