I'm not sure I follow. Apparently, Kyle said, "I need to talk about this with my family. I have talked about it with my family. I would like to continue to do it." This is the managerial equivalent of two for flinching.

When dubas' agent (Wasserman) presented Shanny with a new financial

Shanny would have thought, WTF. So it was always about money not about family.

And then....
wait for it....

Realized hey... Matthews is also represented by Wasserman.

We need to f***ing win in the playoffs and win the Cup. Somebody in this organization has to have a backbone and stand up to the STUPIDITY.

Good on Shanny for holding firm to his beliefs and showing balls that an executive should have if the goal is to win the cup here

if you want to sympathize then sympathize with the people lining up outside the foodbanks b/c they can't afford normal groceries.

sympathizing with dubas? for what? did someone put a gun to dubas' head and said take the job or we'll end your life? or did dubas chose it of his own volition

NOBODY is forced to take the job (athletes, celebs, etc.) that is in the public eye. they are also well compensated for it too.

Dubas got what he deserved.

but more importantly, the Leafs Nation gets what they deserve. Accountability, Fresh Start and FINALLY taking steps towards doing the right things

I hope you're right PL, I do. I usually agree with you, I just don't like the way this all went down. It felt like the result of a last minute spat, not a calculated decision based on past performance.

When I say I sympathize with him, I was referring to the comments he made in the press conference about the toll the past year has taken on his family. As someone who has a fairly demanding job, I know how tough it can be not to let it affect your home life. Shanahan acknowledged that as well. I didn't think Kyle seemed insincere in saying that, though obviously, it couldn't have been too bad since he tendered a counter offer and was willing to return. So there's maybe something to read into that.

Make no mistake that on a professional level, I have no sympathy for anyone in this organization, top to bottom, except for Amirov and Robertson.

“You just saw how ruthless Brendan Shanahan can be.”

That was one view from inside the Maple Leafs house on Friday evening, hours after the team president walked away from his GM of five years, Kyle Dubas, and delivered an oddly detailed, day-by-day, almost hour-by-hour recount of a failed negotiation on a contract extension in a short press conference.

Less than a week after the Leafs were eliminated by the Florida Panthers in the NHL playoffs, the front office has effectively been pulled apart, first with the Dubas decision and then with the news that all three Marlies coaches were fired and special assistant to the GM Jason Spezza had resigned.

It’s also clear that more dismissals and resignations are coming in the near future.

Perhaps a lot of them.

As reported previously in the aftermath of the Leafs elimination, Shanahan and Dubas had been at odds for a while. On Friday, more details emerged on that front. Multiple sources close to the team said that Shanahan had blocked transactions that Dubas wanted to make at key points in the past several seasons, creating frustration in parts of the management group. Shanahan had also at times dictated certain moves he wanted made that Dubas didn’t agree with.

The president, as per his place in the hierarchy, typically won out in those battles. And, in some cases, the moves that weren’t made could have improved the Leafs’ ability to advance further in the playoffs.

Some of those disagreements likely contributed to the disarray Monday, when Dubas delivered an emotionally charged, unusual season-ending press conference during which he declined to commit to coming back as GM.

.........

The friction in the Leafs front office and the relationship between the two men was still a factor, however, and Dubas’ desire for greater autonomy from Shanahan is believed to have been one of the untold reasons for how things ultimately played out.

Now those remaining in the organization are taking sides. Some on the Dubas side are preparing, like Spezza, to leave. Others are hopeful of moving up in the new world order.

It is, in short, a bit of a mess.

Others connected to the team, however, are simply disappointed that what had been a successful partnership between Shanahan and Dubas for nine years fell apart so quickly and so publicly.

Everyone knew all was not well. But few expected it to implode like this, right before the finish line.

“Really tough on everyone,” said one team source. “Not feeling great about the whole thing today. It should have ended very differently.”

It should have ended, they say, with Dubas remaining the Leafs GM.
not surprised, shills gonna shill...........

Your obsession with Wasserman is insane. They have different agents. There are only a few big hockey agencies that represent most of the big names. This isn't weird.

It’s about time Ruthless Shanahan showed up again.
We are in the business to win and progress post season. Not be a Country Club.
A good culture and safe place is important, 100 %, but it’s still the winning business.
GMs and Coaches get fired all the time and players get traded. That’s life in a results orientated league.

here is an interesting trivia....

Dubas got FIRED even before Babcock's contract expired
(hey that rhymed too ;))

LMAO LOL Bahahahahahaahahahaha

Babcock was perhaps the only one happier than me yesterday............

Is Cassidy a future legend though ?
Not in Toronto.

Said it when the power struggle between Shanny and Dubas was reported by Seravelli that Shanny wins it. As much as I also wanted Shanny gone for hiring the rookie, he is in my good books for finally putting an end to the charade. Shanny is now on the clock so he better make the right choice(s) in the coming weeks or he will be next.

Dubas played the media very well here, incredibly sauvy that way. All these guys had direct lines to Dubas, their “opinion” now couldn’t be more whatever. They lost their inside ticket. Like Dregs now.
imo, it's not reporting when you've been given a agenda...........

I mean think about it. If you wanted to take a break to work on family then you do that. You don't counter that pay me more money because all of a sudden the same family stress is going to magically go away

everyone has stress in their life 1) bills to pay, 2) some family members are not doing well (health), 3) your siblings' or their own marriage didn't last, 4) someone's kid is having issue, 5) someone lost their job, 6) mortgage payments just went up but income didn't, etc....

thats part of life. And I do sympathize with things that are out of our control and when unfortunate things happen I really do sympathize.

I mean everyone manages stress and relationships to the best of their ability. Although I can appreciate that your demanding job would make your own life a bit more tiring/stressful as you have to navigate personal and professional life. But if am not wrong, if it became too demanding then may be you will take a break from one i suppose you would be willing to take less pay to keep your family together and manage your own stress levels. I mean eventually we all go and all we have left are memories and life well lived; not how much money we made b/c 90% of the popualtion on the planet is never going to be filthy rich because we make the other 10% filthy rich as we collectively buy the stuff that thet other 10% sell always ;).

You wouldn't counter that hey give me more money because the stress that comes with your job isn't going away, it will still be there. Chances are that if you are getting paid more you are given more responsibility and you would spend even less time with your family.

Dubas' action of demanding more money IMO just shows that he was just using media to negotiate better deal for himself.

At least that is my 2 cents
