They spent a year evaluating and then scrapped their conclusion after one press conference and a contract proposal

Yep lol. Again we didn't hear peep from Shanny about how anything related to hockey operations or the offseason plan impacting his decision.

Instead it was his last minute chats with Dubas about contract stuff that threw everything away.

The only thing that worries me about Shanahan is that he was actually willing to extend this failure. I guess we should all be thanking Dubas for being a complete moron and ridding ourselves of him

I think Shanahan might be redeemable but it's also fair that fans want him gone too. His leash should be very short.

bro you make good points but dubas is not a trash gm.

I am a Leafs fan and IMO Dubas did everything in his power to ruin the leafs future. anybody that ruins the leafs future is trash as far as I am concerned.

you gotta separate the person and the position.

dubas may be the nicest person in the world; but that doesn't mean he is also a competent gm. he is far from it.

btw given dubas' tactic using media first to negotiate contract earlier in the season and then MLSE releasing a statement that they are still paying babcock 25 million dollars to sit at home

and then using the presser to once again use that and his family to negotiate a new contract and then demanding more money to be a gm

come on now....

I am 100% certain if he had a competent GM we would have at least made the conference finals if not cup finals or won the cup in the last 5 years more than 1 time.

A journalist is untrustworthy but you and a good number of people are only too eager to eat up the narrative provided by Shanahan and MLSE, who of course have no agenda in wanting to make Dubas look like a greedy dumb-dumb and themselves like the reasonable ones.

A company owned by Bell/Rogers using professional grade Opinion Shaping?! That’s crazy talk. The guys at Sportsnet told me so.

Look, the Lesfs have the most bloated organization in the NHL under Dubas, we are best suited to carry on during this intermediary time. This idea it will be chaos, give your head a shake, there are more suits around the Leafs than Tip Top Tailors.

If Im Shanny and Dubas pulled that - I'd do a 180 too
Dubas in his arrogance, probably thought he had them by the balls because of the timing

I would be shocked if there wasn't a Plan B.

Why do folks think that the people that run these organizations are unable to think more than 2 days ahead?

Because the alternative is fan fiction. If you believe Shanahan when he says Dubas was fired for being non-committal, but then disbelieve the next thing out of his mouth, that he's just starting the search now, you're reading a choose your own adventure novel, flip to page 72.

Prepared to be shocked. Go watch the presser again and tell me you're confident he has a plan.
Oh no, all is lost now that our hero is gone :eek3:

So you believe that while they debated offering Dubas an extension they never once thought about putting a plan in place how they would replace him had they decided not to renew him?

It's called risk management and any large organization or board of directors, is aware of how it works.

Shanny said they offered. He did not accept. The moment he did not accept, they were looking for his replacement.

MLSE has had an interim CEO for 1.5 years now lol, how’s that for risk management?

These people are rich because they have a monopoly that would be illegal in any normal country, they’re not where they are because they’re particularly competent.

I think Dubas handled himself poorly. But I first and foremost blame Shanny and the ownership board for leaving things until the last minute like this.

I didn't need to happen this chaotically

Ok, perhaps poor wording. There might be a plan B, but it is not as good as plan A...or it would have been plan A.

He traded Hamilton and Fox through for Lindholm and Hanifin, so I can't exactly praise him there. And he gave up a 1st for Toffoli.

More egregiously bad moves in there than good tbh. Although I like him emphasizing toughness.
Toffoli is a better player than tavares...

70 pt trash skating winger in a defensive as f*** system

80 pt trash skating center in an offensive

Neither was Dubas...

Or shanny/keefe

Heck the big 4 arent good enough to be worth 40M collectively yet they still do

This is a straight B class franchise which has the advantage of being in the 2nd biggest market in the league

Were terrible top down

I think they have a plan, but likely dont know the full scope of their options. Itll be a busy weekend for them.

What an opportunity for the new GM to facilitate the biggest tear down in history. Imagine the assets.
