Dubas was at great finding undervalued talent on the cheap. He was also able to find value at the draft despite having little draft capital to work with. While he made both good and bad trades, his trading has been overall a positive as well. He is forward thinking and I get the sense staff and players enjoyed working under him.
My critisisms are as follows: for all his talk of using statistics and other tools to remove bias from decision making, he seemed to be particularly beholden to his own personal biases. I am skeptical about his ability to make hard decisions. He was unable to resign Matthews and Marner to fair contracts in line with their peers.
At the end of the day, Dubas was given the reigns of a team in the best possible scenario and while his process looks solid, it hasn't delivered results. He was way out of line playing games with Shanny after one series win in 9 years.
