I mean come on, what else are they gonna say on record?

They can not comment.

I'd rather not comment than lie.

I already said this was the talking point of the anti-intelligence group, they will just say it is all lies since they don't like what was said.

Sure, they were referring to his candor and professionalism in their dealings with him over the years.

They obviously weren't commenting on the underhanded negotiating tactics he displayed the past few days.

the agent, from the GM's perspective, is only really to deal with legal matters/their contract. they are just sports oriented lawyers (that are not actually lawyers a lot of the time) It's not the agency's job to make kyle's performance better with the roster, or make the salary cap situation better. It's just for purposes of representation between the GM and the club he works for or will eventually work for. The agent doesn't take part in contractual negotiations for players on behalf of the GM, ever. It's purely executive level only.

there is no direct link between the two except they happen to work/play for the same team. at no point will the agent ever have to represent both the GM and player at the same time at opposite ends of the table.

Nice try attempting to blur the entire point of the discussion: the negotiation of monetary compensation between parties.

Though I will say, it's also not completely inconceivable that they may have disagreed with one another on everything. Two different people ina decision making loop are bound to have some issues they don't see eye to eye on

The Leafs trade deadline based on the types of gritty physical players brought in seemed like a 180 degree change in organizational direction from past Dubas type moves and much more rival the type of player Brendan Shanahan was in the NHL and what it took to be successful. Also on volume of swapping 6 new of 18 players = 1/3 your roster change over.

It would be easy to believe that the TD moves where President inspired and influenced from above.

And the guy who reactionarily fired someone based on a change of heart (not money) and will now start thinking/searching for a replacement when we have 6 weeks until we need to make organization-altering decisions is?

Shanahan comes off so bad in this to me, and Dubas comes off bad to me too, but how anyone can be comfortable with this guy steering the ship is beyond me, he comes off as completely clueless.
I dont think we have a lot of big Shanny fans around here, yesterday was just a really good day for him is all.

Each previous year would have been a much better time to sack Dubas. Shanny probably only has a job because their in a bind now. He may get an extra year out of this.

Does it really matter who said what? Look at the results and make up your own opinion. He spent years building towards his best season of 5 playoff wins, and, in that process, he left the 2024 roster, draft capital, and cap situation in rough shape.

Next season we are in an amazing position.. what are people talking about?

14 million in cap space to make upgrades and sign players.

That looks great to me.

He came off as clueless, but he did something a lot of people like, so they think it was a good day.

It was a bad look for him, Dubas, and the organization.

how did I blur anything?

between GM and club and between GM/Club and player are two entirely different things. The agent doesn't represent the GM in dealings with players, only with the club. There is zero conflict of interest here.

Agent gains nothing by siding with GM when representing players. There is only 32 GMs and over 640 players.

To be clear, this is not about Dubas' intelligence or ability as a NHL executive.

This is about the sequence of events that led to the decision of Shanahan and the MLSE board to discontinue negotiations with Dubas and his agent for a contract extension.

Since the press conference yesterday, Dubas has been eviscerated by the majority of well respected members of the media, and for good reason.

Call me old fashioned but here goes.

Kyle repeatedly losing his shit up in the box while watching games is a bad look for the person running the team.

You want that energy from your players (we don't get that enough) and sometimes the coach (at times) but the guy steering the ship IMO should be calm and cool.

His first deadline he acquires a cup winning top 4 D who played a hard nosed physical style. He acquired multiple veteran captains over his tenure as well as physical fighters like Clifford and Simmonds.

This deadline we acquired more of thr same players weve seen every year

That looks great to me.

Having Nick Robertson in the top-6 is not "great". He probably shouldn't even be on the roster at all.
Having John Tavares at centre is not "great". We need to sign at least 3 centres
Having that blueline is not "great". We need to seriously upgrade that group.
Having Matt Murray as your starting goalie is not "great". We have to sign Samsonov and also spend assets to unload Murray.

Add in that changes need to be made to the core, since they clearly cannot get it done when it matters.

Yeah, looks "great"....

I was one of those guys who wanted Dubas back, but after all this. Thank God he ain't coming back... the guy really tried to pull a quick one on shanny lol.... and for mirtle coming and saying shanny was the one saying no to some trades that woulda made the leafs go further in playoffs is such a weird statement lol. Didn't dubas literally make 6 trades at this deadline or more! And technically used every dam asset we had!!!! Hard to see any team giving dubas a shot after all this.

Here is some information from The Athletic's James Mirtle regarding former Toronto Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas' future:

Given how complex the Leafs roster decisions are going to be this offseason, getting that GM hire right will be imperative. Without Dubas, the Leafs front office is low on experienced hands, and with so many currently in place contemplating their futures, the exodus could create even more uncertainty as the draft and free agency approach at the end of next month.

As for Dubas’ future, while he stated on Monday that he didn’t anticipate quickly relocating to a new role, the thinking around the league right now is that his views may change if he receives a significant offer in a role with full autonomy in the coming months. The situation in Ottawa, in particular, could be intriguing, with new, deep-pocketed ownership and a young roster on the rise.

A front office with the rival Senators that included Dubas as president and Spezza and Daniel Alfredsson in supporting roles would certainly make things interesting in the Atlantic Division.

Not that the Maple Leafs will need any help creating headlines at this point given the organizational upheaval that is going to continue to unfold this offseason.

A bunch of GMs just said Dubas was a great GM and a great hockey mind.

Don't forget this praise Dubas received,

NHL Agent Poll: Maple Leafs’ Kyle Dubas Deemed Most Generous GM

Relationships between teams and agents are among the most interesting balancing acts in the NHL, in which both parties search for a suitable cocktail of amicability and respect. A recent poll released by PuckPedia, a website that tracks contracts and salary cap situations in the NHL, suggests that Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas is — for better or worse — cozier with agents than the rest of his peers combined.

Question : To get a great deal for your client, what GM would you most want to deal with? (25 anonymous agents)

Dubas received 29 percent of the vote, while no other GM received more than six percent.

Let’s focus on why agents might feel this way.

Dubas, who has only been Toronto’s GM since May 2018, opened up the checkbook and handed out four sizable contracts in a 15-month span (to John Tavares, Auston Matthews, William Nylander and Mitch Marner). Those contracts combine for 24 years and more than $240 million. More specifically, the trio of Matthews ($11.634 million AAV), Tavares ($11 million AAV) and Marner ($10.893 million AAV) possess three of the seven highest salary cap hits in the league — creating an unprecedented extent of top-heaviness.

Player agents know when they want to get their clients top dollar on contracts its Kyle Dubas they hope is on the other side of the line and in charge of handing them out.
