Kyle Dubas appreciation / hot seat discussion ***Mod warning in OP***

i just find it really interesting that people go "i don't trust media at all." then want a source. (ie: something the media wrote of the person saying it) . if it wasn't true. then the Leafs PR (or Babcock himself would have said what Kristen said wasn't true. which they've done plenty of times with regards to other twitter quotes and what not) - which is why for the most part the ones who work and travel with the leafs every day generally don't make crap up when saying "Person of the team said." (ie: Kristen, Mark etc) because if they did they'd be seen as people who lie, and can't be trusted and lose their gigs being around the team. (see Dave Feschuck who doesn't have access to the team as easily as he did before).

So basically nobody but this lady says Babs said that.

Thats a problem to me. I'm not saying she's lying. And just want to be accurate with my facts. Broken telephone from the media is not facts. They just want clicks.

I also know considering that Kristen (aka "this lady" ) is the Leafs Beat reporter. and She (like Mark) always reports things like that, and it's not "broken telephone" because being their beat reporter they've written about it (thus have it quoted), it was a radio hit (thus aired it) or a video it (thus aired it), and they are just hitting twitter, which would explain why she would say it like that and not anyone else, because she was actually there.

I've been a little out of the loop. I've heard people critical of Matthews... but nothing about Dubas.

What are people upset at Dubas about?

Some people think that Dubas should’ve kept it to himself that he found out about the charges through Twitter, which means Matthews didn’t disclose the incident to the team and makes Auston look real bad.

Thing is though it wasn’t up to Dubas. Babcock was gotten to first and told he media he had no idea about Matthews’ charges. If Dubas comes out and says he did know to back up Matthews, not only is he now screwing himself by lying he’s making it look like the management and coaching staff don’t communicate at all, and we get a much bigger scandal than what’s currently going on.

Far as I’m concerned Dubas and the organization have handled this just fine.

Many have not read this yet. Its impossible to tell, maybe some haven't weighed in. I am not all knowing but my point is stands and is valid...

Kyle Dubas stated he found out from twitter and essentially threw the AM camp under the bus. He did not need to offer that detail and it was a misstep in my opinion.

This is like a bank robber blaming the teller for pushing the silent alarm button.

But I respect him for the way he handled this. He said all the right things, imho.

I don't really complain about Dubas much, but last September, he said he wasn't planning on signing our big RFAs above Market value.... well... he did just that. All three of them.

If Dubas had gotten Marner to sign at his best comparables, Marner would have clocked in around 9-9.9 mil over 6-7 years. Which would have seemingly lined up well with Rantanen's alleged deal.

So its fair to say he deserves some flack here - though overpaying one of the better wingers in the league by a million dollars is hardly the disaster some are suggesting.

The bridge deals you can make an argument for(I really don't think they are as good of deals as people are making them out to be). But yeah....this one looks bad.
