Dubas tried to get rid of Babcock after last years playoff exit, but Shanahan vetoed?

Mike Babcock’s tenure nearly ended last spring. Another first-round exit will seal the deal | The Star

Babcock was nearly made to walk the plank after the Maple Leafs lost to the Bruins in the first round last spring. Sources say there was considerable disagreement in the Maple Leafs front office on the matter of the famously stubborn head coach’s continuing employment.

Still, no executive-coach alliance is eternal, and the message to Babcock was clear. Room for error is minimal. Even a slow start to the season could be enough to thrust Marlies coach Sheldon Keefe into the Maple Leafs gig.

This is why I do not like Dubas.

The Toronto Maple Leafs under his tutelage, has $10 million 3rd line in the cap era.

Not only that, it is not as good as the 3rd line from last year.

The reasons for this strange situation is that Dubas is two things.

1. He cannot judge hockey talent.
2. He may not be that bright for a NHL general manager. A $10 million dollar 3rd line? Does Dubas realize he needs money up and down the roster, but has sunk $10 million in the 3rd line?

Once they put Moore on the first line tonight against Minnesota, it changed the game. Moore the dodged forechecker worker been was a catalyst for that line. After a slow start, the first line is back with this change.

Once Hyman comes back, he will be slotted into the top 6.

That leaves a $10 million 3rd line who won't score like the top 2 lines and is not a shut down 3rd line either.

Only the Toronto Maple Leafs can do something like this.

You're talking about a scenario where we might pay average 3rd line money for what could be the best third line in the league, and you come to the conclusion that the GM is dumb. That's almost impressive.

I also don't think Moore gets dodged on the forecheck at all.

Do the math on this team. It will not add up.

Do the math on THIS team, not some theoretical team.

You may want to look up how much 3rd liners tend to make. 10 million isnhsrdly an outlier-especially considering that every player on it could comfortably slide into another teams and top six.

The Leafs 3rd line will be a main strength, not a hindrance lol

I cannot emphasize how much I disagree with that.

If mixing and matching was that simple for this team, then there are three lines right now!

We know that is not the case.

Moving Moore up seem to jump start everything tonight against Minnesota.

Moore/Mikheyev/Kerfoot = 5.2 million

Kapanen/Mikheyev/Kerfoot= 7.825 million.

Last season, three most common 3rd lines.

Kadri/Marleau/Kapanen = 11.61 million.

Brown/Kadri/Nylander = 13.56 million

Kadri/Marleau/Nylander = 17.71 million.

Pro-tip: Lie about things only you alone know the truth to, rather than publicly available information.

Also, logically if the Leafs have 50 million committed to 6 players, the other 17 must be underpaid relative to the league.
