Speculation: 2023-24-25 Sharks Roster Discussion

The way the goalie market is looking, if the Sharks can't sign Jake Allen or Anton Forsberg, their best bet might be to get paid to take someone's dump off their hands if that's there (guys with one or two years left like Mrazek, Merzlikins, Grubauer, Varlamov, Skinner, or Talbot) Paying an asset for a goalie that's not intended to be next year's #1 in net seems wasteful. Outside of that, Ivan Prosvetov is sounding like he wants to come back over after a good season in the KHL. They may need to consider that option if nothing materializes.

The crazy option, more so after suffering thru Georgiev, would be if Pitt attaches something interesting to Jarry for SJ to take him… given the term still on that deal.

I mention Jarry because all the talking heads that have connections to goalie gurus etc mention Jarry as the one with a bad contract that might be worth taking a swing on. Because he could rehab nicely given the skill set.

I don't see the Pens offering what it would take to take Jarry off their hands especially as they make it sound like they're entering a rebuild. They're not going to give up the futures needed to make it worth taking him off their hands even if he didn't have us on his no-trade list. If we're going to go that route, I'm hoping it's someone that will be expiring sooner and tradeable sooner.

His results. The results he is responsible for because he's the one physically taking the shifts. That's not unique to him and it doesn't need to be. The base level of accountability on any professional team is required for the culture to be even just not toxic. Comparing him to 4th liners on other teams means nothing when his ice time is that of a 3rd liner here. Plenty of players got publicly called out over the course of this season for not performing well. Goodrow was at the very least on par with practically anyone who did get called out. That, to me, doesn't even matter. The only accountability that really matters as it relates to Goodrow is that he shouldn't be in the lineup anymore. You can literally pick anyone else to play instead of him to achieve similar or better results. Him discussing it doesn't mean he wanted to be here. He can have no problems with San Jose and still not want to be here. I don't have a problem saying that Goodrow has handled the waivers thing like a professional. It doesn't mean that doing so means what he brings is valuable. It isn't without on-ice play to legitimize it and him as a player. Giving this kind of cover to Goodrow is holding him to a different standard than anyone else at his depth level and it doesn't help the team or its culture to sweep that under the rug.
Goodrow was on the 3rd line early in the season and far too long for my liking but he was exclusively on the 4th line after the halfway point in the season. Yes he wasn’t scratched but as was mentioned Grier picked him off wavers got his off ice contribution and his on ice results really don’t matter. The Sharks still finish 32nd without Goodrow.

Look at his game log in the second half of the season. That isn't exclusively being on the 4th line. He was still getting numerous opportunities in the top nine and failing miserably at it.

Just because he had more TOI doesn’t mean he was on the 3rd line. He was the sacrificial lamb on the PK on this horrid team.

I hope the Sharks can find a way, as unlikely as it seems, to acquire Bo Byram from Buffalo. We can give him what he wants for a contract and opportunity. I just don't think we have what Buffalo wants.

Buffalo needs leadership and post-season experience to help them get over their playoff hump.

Grier should sell the heck out of what a great leader Goodrow is and put together a highlight reel with the Vegas goal and his time in Tampa Bay.

Attach Crosby and we'll call it a deal.

My fav team is the leafs. Second being the sharks. Would the sharks be interested in Mathews and marner?

I hear ya. U guys do have 40m in caps space.
Okay, I’ll bite.

What would you ask for from the Sharks for Matthews? If it’s 2nd overall, Smith, or Dickinson, then it’s gonna be a no from me.

We’ve debated the idea of signing Marner here ad nauseum. Some people would like it at any cost, some people would hate it at any cost. My opinion changes every day. The main issue is that it would break the future cap structure of the team when Celebrini needs a new contract the same way the Tavares contract broke the Leafs’ cap structure when it came time for Matthews/Marner/Nylander to get new contracts, which hasn’t exactly worked out great for y’all.
