Kings did not trade for Chychrun!

Can one of you advance stats dudes pull up Edlers analytics?

Edler's metrics aren't bad, really. All of the Kings' defensemen are around the same with possession, Doughty is a little bit ahead. Edler has slightly better possession numbers than Durzi/Roy.

His GF% is poor as expected, he doesn't contribute much on the offensive side. Durzi is 2nd worst followed by Roy. Walker has the best GF% outside the top pair. Mikey is #1.

Edler has the best DFF% of the defense, so he's out there for more dangerous chances for than against. He's been better lately and his numbers reflect that. He's not giving up much defensively, and when he does it's not that dangerous.

Caveat to all this - he and Walker face the lowest competition the opposition has to offer. Against top competition, his numbers are atrocious, as one would expect. Both he and Walker are a passable 3rd pairing, but when they move up they both fall apart. There is my biggest beef with playing Edler over Toby. When Toby plays against better competition, his numbers actually improve. Likewise with Durzi, he elevates his game. Small sample, but Toby has the best overall metrics against elite competition on the team. I don't think he's anywhere near his ceiling.

No, he’s not as good defensively as Anderson, but he is a better player. I like Anderson a lot too, should we downgrade him for not being able to contribute offensively or in the transition game like JC would? People on this forum (IMO) overrate defensive dman and underrate offensive ones.

If the Kings offered Anderson around the league would he return as much as JC? No, so that should tell you who is the more valuable asset.

A top 4 of Doughty, Chychrun, Anderson and Roy would be one of the best top 4’s in the league. There is some injury risk for sure, but there were risks with all the guys DL traded for as well. You have to roll the dice at some point.
some injury risk? has JC played an entire season yet?

I think the dissonance in the conversation is 'what's his trade value' vs. 'what is he going to be as a player on a competitive team.'

I don't think there's any evidence he's an all-situations #1 dman on a contender. #2? Sure. Like I said, more in common with Muzzin than Doughty.

But they want Eichel value for Muzzin/Seth Jones.

Exactly. The other thing is they're acting like he's a healthy 82 game a year player. His best year he played 68 games. That has to factor into any deal. He's just not worth 2 first, even with that contract.

Not in his entire life.

Not just at the NHL level either, closest he came was 62 of 68 one year in the OHL. Most he's ever played is 68 in 2017.
Not true. He played all 56 games in the COVID-shortened 2020-21 season. Over the past three seasons, he’s played 139/192 possible games, or about 72%.

I also often wonder how often guys sit out for minor injuries when their team is playing meaningful vs. non-meaningful games.

If the cost works out sure. I am beginning to view McCabe as the guy who checks the most boxes and might be the best value of the group Blake is looking at. He is a solid 2nd pair LHD who has term at $4M. Good guy to have in the room from what I read. Going to know his role and play it well. Someone who will stay home while Durzi goes adventuring.
I would still want another LHD with size on the 3rd pair.
I continue to think that McCabe is the right target for this team. Chychrun is a better player overall, but will cost way more.

I guess more than anything the point is he seems to be like a goalie, just can't play more than 60 games without breaking down somehow. At ANY level, it's not just the NHL. It's not like he was healthy and just had some fluke injuries in the pros, dude can't even make it through an OHL season without sneezing his way out of the lineup.

Chychrun is to Rob Blake what Brad Richards was to Dean Lombardi.

We can only hope another team outbids us and saves our GM from himself.

If Chychrun is actually traded to the Kings....I hope the first poster is a MOD and just SUBTLY edits this thread from

Kings “should” trade for Chychrun.

Kings 'did' trade for Chychrun.

The funny thing is 80% of us all wouldn't even notice.

I wouldn’t mind trading for Chychrun, as long as we aren’t moving Byfield, Clarke, Vilardi, Kaliyev, or Spence to do it. I would definitely move guys like Turcotte, Bjornfot, Durzi, etc. We do have a hole on the left side. We’ve had a pretty good track record with oft-injured players in the past. I’m really happy that Byfield and Clarke are unavailable, and if we have a couple more guys off limits then I’m all for spending some of the other prospect currency on upgrades to the left side of the defense and our goaltending situation.

And before anyone says otherwise, I do agree that he’s probably worth one of those guys. I just don’t want him for that price. If Turcotte, Durzi, and a 1st isn’t going to cut it (which is a huge haul), then I’m not interested.

Kings got Lias for the 60th OA in the 2020 draft after being the 7th OA in the 2017 draft.

If Turcotte were traded at this draft, it would be an additional year of "development" beyond the Lias timeline. A bad team with a lot of picks and prospects like the Kings were back at the '20 draft would probably flip a later 2nd round pick for him but this package for Chychrun looks like a high teens/low 20s 1st round pick, Durzi (who most people here say sucks) and a lower 2nd round pick (Turcotte).

Doesn't seem like a huge haul to me for a coveted deadline acquisition with two years left on his deal at a good cap hit. I say that as a Durzi fan.

Lombardi was actively trying to do something stupid.

From the sound of it, Blake made a reasonable offer, and isn't willing to pay the price AZ wants.

I'm OK with Spence, but none of those forwards you listed. This team has went way too long having the inability to draft top line forwards. Now that we have them emerging, you can't let them go.

The Kings should target a Dumolin, Weegar, Soucy, Edmundson, McCabe type of dman. Cheaper and exactly what we need. Chychrun's too expensive. It's essentially like having two Doughtys on the team. Doesn't make sense.

There’s also Orlov, who’s better than anyone mentioned above but will be a pricey UFA.
At this point, if there isn’t a hockey trade we just need to roll with what we’ve got!

Ekholm and Saros?
Dare to dream
Sure we can dream that the cap goes up 11mil too, but whats the point :) JQ former salary can be earmarked for Saros next year in theory.. but Eckholm 32yrs and 3 more seasons after this at 6.25.. doesnt look like the right move without gutting some other part of the team.
