Kadri

Maybe...but that's kind of buying lottery tickets.

Burakovsky has been the biggest driver of that line. He creates a lot for himself and isn't really the ideal partner with Kadri. If you look at Tyson Jost as an individual player, his it's hard to imagine him reaching Kadri's ceiling (at least up until fairly recently). But since Burakovsky is kind of a lone ranger anyway, you can feed him chances by either having a linemate with playmaking skills (which Kardi is not) or you can create chaos at the offensive end that lead to a volume of chances. The latter is something that the tandom of Jost and Nichushkin provides at the moment.

The 2nd line is and has largely been the Burakovsky line.

Yeah Burkie is the biggest driver outside the top line... but wings as drivers don't win Cups. You need centers rowing the boat. If the 2nd line is going to just be Burkie doing his thing, it simply won't be good enough.

Could be a blessing in disguise. If its going be a long term I hope its just this series (5 games). Best case is Newhook gains confidence in a top six role and Kadri comes back a revitalized next round. Boys should still be ready, game 3 is going to be even more physical.

Is this true? I don't follow suspension rules and don't trust Dater at all.

"What is a "Repeat Offender"? A Player is considered a repeat offender for 18 months following his most recent incident that resulted in a suspension. His status as a repeat offender in this category is used to determine the amount of salary forfeited should he receive another suspension."

Yes that is true
I said that in the Kadri hit thread on the main board and two posters commented saying that the 18 months repeat offender limit was only relevant for fines, but that players could still be treated as a repeat offender when considering suspensions. Would be nice if someone can clarify this once and for all.

I was actually thinking to myself at one point earlier in the game how I liked what I was seeing when Kadri made sure to finish a check behind the Blues net instead of doing the flybys we've seen from him this season and then.....

Repeat offender just basically means more salary is given up when suspended. History can still be taken into account.

It is important to note that even if a Player is not defined as a repeat offender, his past history may come into consideration when determining future Supplemental Discipline.”

So Dater isn’t necessarily wrong but it matters not that Kadri isn’t technically a repeat offender, it’ll still be taken into consideration.

DoPS always likes to throw the book at players easy to throw the book at while looking the other way with more likable players.

Ask yourself if Kadri is easy to throw the book at and you should be able to figure out what's going to happen.

The weird thing about this play to me was Kadri's wasn't even worked up. With Toronto his wires would cross after things got super physical and he'd just lose his mind. This hit came out of nowhere. Such a stupid play.

Kadri's entire game has looked different this year. He's always been inconsistent/too fancy which is why he's a 2 C and not a 1 C. He's been so lazy and just looks like he's going through the motions. Like he doesn't care. It wasn't that bad last year, and it's a far cry from what he was in Toronto. Guessing he's trying to keep himself under control which is why you don't see the same passion but in the end it didn't even work.

Doubt Toronto takes him back but I could absolutely see him trying to head back there as a FA on a discount.

I hope he gets 2+ games. If Perros gives him a slap on the wrist, it's just going to cause the Blues to seek vigilante justice on one of the Avs star players.

Thanks both for clarifying that, much appreciated.

I hope he gets 3-5+, as others have said if the league doesn't do justice the Blues will. Can't wait for Kadri's dumbass to leave us with another playoff year injured.

I'd have moved Saad with Kadri right at the beginning of the series. Kadri's success is critical to the Avs' Cup chances and I think Saad is the best chance to get him going. If that didn't work, I'd put Nuke with him. This hurts the Jost line, but frankly the Jost line isn't as important. After that, I'd put Newhook on Kadri's wing. If that doesn't work, the Avs have probably lost a series and you're looking at next season.

Center depth is critical in the NHL, and I know Jost has done well in his role lately... but the best teams have an elite 3C in that spot who are actually capable of picking up slack when a 2C goes cold. Jost is going to get his shot to prove or disprove that he's that guy. Only time will tell.

If it's not this year, next year for sure.......

Some of the stuff Wilson has done has been way more egregious and had more intent to injure than Kadri's hit, so it would be pretty ridiculous if Kadri got significantly more than Wilson ($5k no games) or Bennett (1 game). Kadri has prior history, but technically no history in the last 2 years so that shouldn't be a factor.
Repeat offender status only affects salary forfeiture.

The fact that he got five and a game will lessen the suspension. A major penalty is a huge deal when it’s handed down and can alter the course of a series.

I’d be surprised if he got more than 3 games.
